dean.<br />
Each annual performance review shall be completed no later than April 1 of the subsequent year<br />
for the period of the prior calendar year.<br />
4.6 Notification of Renewal and Non –Renewal of Appointments<br />
The Dean or other appropriate <strong>University</strong> officials shall give notice of the decision not to retain a<br />
tenure-track probationary faculty member in accordance with the following standards:<br />
a) Written notice shall be given in a manner reasonably calculated to provide actual notice<br />
to the faculty member. This may include, but is not limited to, mailing to the member’s<br />
known address (as shown on the <strong>University</strong> records), delivering through the usual<br />
intradepartmental or interdepartmental university mail system, or delivering in person,<br />
b) Notice shall be governed by the following time frame:<br />
1) No later than three months before the end of the first academic year of<br />
probationary service,<br />
2) Not later than six months before the end of the second year of probationary<br />
service,<br />
3) At least twelve months before the expiration of the probationary appointment<br />
after two or more years at the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
Each contract given to a non-tenured teacher shall include notice of tenure-track or non-tenuretrack<br />
status and current number of years, if any, credited toward tenure.<br />
4.7 Length of Tenure-Track Service<br />
For tenure-eligible faculty, the length of probationary service will be governed by the following<br />
regulations:<br />
Unless otherwise provided for, a probationary period shall be six years of full-term service in a<br />
tenure-track position in the academic ranks of professor, associate professor, assistant professor,<br />
or any combination thereof. At the discretion of the <strong>University</strong> administration, time spent as an<br />
instructor may be considered toward the six-year probationary period once the faculty member<br />
has attained the rank of Associate Professor.<br />
For the purpose of calculating the period of probationary service, an academic year shall consist<br />
of two long semesters (i.e., the fall semester and the spring semester). Summer terms shall not<br />
be counted toward fulfilling the period of probationary service.<br />
A faculty member shall be considered to be on full-time academic service when in full<br />
compliance with the <strong>University</strong>’s standards pertaining to a normal faculty workload.<br />
