FACULTY SENATE<br />
ART1CLE I<br />
SCOPE<br />
The <strong>Faculty</strong> Senate shall serve as the executive body of the <strong>Faculty</strong> Assembly. It derives its<br />
power from the <strong>Faculty</strong> Assembly and is responsible to the Assembly. It shall have power to<br />
discuss and to adopt resolutions upon matters relating to <strong>University</strong> life. It shall make<br />
preliminary formulations of educational policies or plan programs and make recommendations to<br />
the Assembly. Its recommendations and/or decisions and actions are subject to review, approval,<br />
or rejection by the <strong>Faculty</strong> Assembly.<br />
ARTICLE II<br />
MEMBERSHIP<br />
The membership of the <strong>Faculty</strong> Senate shall consist of the elected officers of the Assembly, the<br />
Parliamentarian, the Deans (as associate, non-voting members), the <strong>Faculty</strong> Assembly/Senate<br />
Counsel, and twenty-one (21) elected representatives chosen such that there shall be not less than<br />
one (1) representative from each of the <strong>University</strong>’s schools and colleges and from the<br />
<strong>University</strong> Library. Representatives shall be full time faculty and staff. Further, in compliance<br />
with the rule that there must be at least one (1) representative from each unit, election of the<br />
remaining representatives shall be carried out by the <strong>University</strong>’s Schools and Colleges in a<br />
manner proportionate to the number of students enrolled in each school or college. The<br />
apportionment shall be based on the <strong>University</strong> 20th day full-time equivalent enrollment figures<br />
for the preceding year’s fall term. Each Senate member shall serve a term of two (2) years.<br />
ARTICLE III<br />
ORGANIZATION<br />
The <strong>Faculty</strong> Chairperson shall be the presiding officer of the <strong>Faculty</strong> Senate. The <strong>Faculty</strong><br />
Chairperson and the Vice Chairperson shall each maintain a file of all the proceedings of the<br />
<strong>Faculty</strong> Senate. It shall be the responsibility of the <strong>Faculty</strong> Chairperson to transmit all of the<br />
Senate’s decisions, actions and/or recommendations to the <strong>Faculty</strong> Assembly for its review,<br />
approval, disapproval, information, or action.<br />
The Vice Chairperson shall serve as Chairperson pro-tem and shall preside in the absence of or at<br />
the pleasure of, the Chairperson. In the absence of the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, the<br />
succession for presiding officer of the Senate shall go from Vice Chairperson to the Secretary to<br />
the Treasurer to the Parliamentarian to the Assistant Secretary, and then to any member of the<br />
Senate so elected by members of the Senate.<br />
The Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the Assembly shall keep records of the proceedings of<br />
the Senate’s meetings via audio or videotaped recordings and shall transcribe, process, and<br />
