Sir Samuel Smyth made a lease<br />
of the mansion-house, gate-house,<br />
garden, and plantations to the<br />
Rev. Edward Parry, D.D., who became<br />
Bishop of Killaloe, and died<br />
of the plague, the 28th of July,<br />
1650, in his house "Chichester<br />
House," On his death it passed<br />
to his son, the Rev. John Parry,<br />
D.D., afterwards Bishop of Ossory.<br />
On 12th September, 1659, "the<br />
Church of Christ meeting at<br />
Chichester House," appointed Mr.<br />
Thomas Hicks to preach and dis-<br />
pense the Gospel at Stillorgan<br />
and other places in the barony of<br />
Rathdown as the Lord shall<br />
enable him." (Book of Establish-<br />
ment, Record Tower, Dublin Castle.")<br />
In 1661 it was first made use of<br />
for the sittings of Parliament.<br />
On 5th April, 1661, 30 were<br />
ordered to Mrs. Sankey on per-<br />
fecting the writings on her part<br />
concerning Chichester House,<br />
" now to be made use of for the<br />
Parliament." Vol. L., ibid.) On<br />
26th April, 1661, Richard White,<br />
of Dublin, merchant, demised to<br />
Sir Paul Davis, knt., Clerk of<br />
the Council, the great hall in<br />
Chichester House, and one<br />
chamber adjoining to the end of<br />
the said gallery for H.M.'s use,<br />
from 25th March last past, for<br />
two years, at 60 per annum ;<br />
and the said lease having expired<br />
on 25th March, 1663, it was<br />
thought fit by the Lord Deputy<br />
and Council (says their Concordatum<br />
Order of April 3, 1669),<br />
to continue the lease, and the rent<br />
was ordered to be paid him from<br />
time to time, half-yearly, before-<br />
