8. Model and write a class cinquain using the animal and describing<br />

words from the class book.<br />

9. Have each student select an animal that they will write a cinquain<br />

about. Students can look at the seven-column chart that was made<br />

by the class during Topic 2, Session 2.1 to get an idea for an animal<br />

if they are unsure what animal to select.<br />

10. Begin to prepare students to write a cinquain in the next session. To<br />

prepare for writing the cinquain, have students brainstorm and<br />

organize their ideas in their journal. Use the Cinquain<br />

Brainstorming sheet (pg. 52). (This page will be used again in<br />

Topic 2, Session 2.5.)<br />

“Animal Poetry” (pg. 282) is a Project WILD activity that use poetry as a method to learn about the<br />

environment. “Water Wings” (pg. 110) is another activity that uses poetry and can be found in Project<br />

WILD Aquatic.<br />
