SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS<br />

As Vice Chancellor, C. S. Azad <strong>University</strong> of Agriculture & Technology,<br />

Kanpur<br />

(2006-2008)<br />

Dr. V.K. Suri’s appointment has been rated by several persons as a unique one due to<br />

factors such as, one of the youngest (51 years) to be Vice-Chancellor, that too, of a<br />

prestigious university (being one of the 6 oldest erstwhile agril. colleges of undivided India :<br />

102 years old now) and again because of direct elevation from Professor to the Vice-<br />

Chancellor. Again, it is notable that my selection was made by the Honourable Governor,<br />

Utter <strong>Pradesh</strong> cum Chancellor of U.P. Universities after a formal interview process of<br />

candidates involved who were all stalwarts in their own right. I am happy to find that my<br />

performance as Vice-Chancellor of this university has been rated as, “Outstanding” by all<br />

concerned. Actually, I attempted to create an atmosphere of devotion/efficiency at work by<br />

setting my own example, by being highly receptive/innovative/ friendly / positive, etc. My<br />

attitude/accomplishments paid me rich dividends; students’ and employees’ welfare being<br />

my top most agenda. I made many key appointments, each one based on merit. In less<br />

than 6 months, I organized one international conference and 3 national meets successfully.<br />

Besides, I organized/hosted All India (SAUs’) Vice-Chancellors’ Meet (December 9-10, 2006)<br />

for which we have received high appreciation from all concerned. I formed ‘Committees’<br />

to oversee all aspects of university administration. In order to streamline matters, I formed<br />

staff assessment committee, staff rationalization committees, financial reforms committee,<br />

etc. all of which functioned efficiently. I visited several KVKs’/Research Centres of the<br />

university. I got ‘SWOT’ analyses done in respect of all units/departments soon after joining<br />

- the same proved helpful to me vis-a-vis improving the university. I advertised/filled several<br />

teaching and non-teaching posts and placed orders worth several crore rupees for building<br />

works pertaining new Krishi Vigyan Kendras, etc. Colleges of Forestry and Horticulture at<br />

Kanpur and Colleges of Fisheries Science and Dairy Technology at Etawah. Almost all above<br />

buildings stand completed. Salient achievements are described below:<br />

1. Work culture was restored, enthusiasm inculcated and confidence built-up<br />

amongst the employees. The university not only got back its past glory but<br />

also achieved new heights in the fields of teaching, research and
