48 CD ROM and INTERNET Facilities Created The CD ROM and internet facilities were made available in the University Library, which has helped the students and the faculty members to acquaint themselves with the recent scientific and technological developments occurring all over of the world. It has also established connectivity with all the universities of the country. This facility has significantly reduced the cost on procurement of various research journals and periodicals. Hostels Renovated Hostels of all the colleges of the university have been renovated including the students’ living rooms, dining halls, common rooms and kitchens after thorough repairs. Extra-Curricular Activities Strengthened In order to ensure overall personality development of students and also to make them responsible citizens, various co-curricular facilities have been added especially in the areas of games, gymnasium and also introduced various professional activities with the aim of encouraging professional competitions. Looking towards these special efforts, the ICAR gave the responsibility to conduct the Agri-Sports 2008 to the CSAUAT, Kanpur. International Collaboration Broadened Collaboration with international institutions and universities in the areas of teaching, research and extension and also the exchange of technology was planned/started. The university seriously planned to establish international collaboration with FAO, CIMMYT, Ohio University, etc. Work Culture Restored Work culture at Kanpur campus had almost vanished. The university has also seen ups and down in the past like other places/institutions in the country. However, just in one year, work culture in the university was not only restored to its past glory, but it achieved new heights also with accountability and time bound disposal of work. Frequent monitoring has been the key to success. University Campus Beautified The beautification of the campus was a top priority of my administration. The campus now looks very impressive with its well tended fields, housing colonies, street lights, regular water supply system, gardens with beautiful annuals, various timber, fuel and ornamental trees and hedge maintained throughout the campus. Civic Amenities Improved Civic amenities for students / other residents of the campus especially in the class IV colonies have been addressed well. During the last 2 years, streetlights, public lavatories, public water connections, etc. were remodelled. The playgrounds and new parks were developed with all required facilities.
49 Faculty Promoted Long time awaited faculty promotions have been done. In this process, a total number of 73 faculty members were promoted to the rank of Associate Professor and 55 faculty members were promoted to the rank of Professor during the period of my stay at the CSAUAT, Kanpur. Specialized and Talented Faculty Added Faculty is the key to quality in teaching, research and extension. Long time vacant positions of Krishi Vigyan Kendras and vacant posts of SC/ST backlog were filled with specialized and talented faculty. Breeder Seed Production Programme During the period of my stay, the breeder seed production got a real boost. Under a single window system, Seed Production Centre of the University produced nucleus and breeder seeds and established its processing, storage and marketing system on modern lines. This organizational restructuring has led to strict quality control. This centre now produces total breeder seed requirements of the state for important crops like rice, wheat, soybean, groundnut, in addition to pulses and vegetables. Research Projects Added In 2007-08 and 2008-09, about 11 and 23 new ad-hoc research projects were sanctioned/ financed by various agencies. Under National Horticulture Mission, projects worth rupees two crores were got sanctioned. Commercial Bio-control Lab Established Mass production of bio-control agents (Gliocladium virens, Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma harzianum) was started during my Vice-Chancellorship. Compatible strains of T. harzianum and Pseudomonas flourescens were identified and mixed formulations of these two bio-agents were tested under field condition. Mass culturing of corcyra was also taken up; university is also producing it commercially for sale in the market. Weather Forecasting and Advisory Services Agromet Advisory Service project funded by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India is running in the Department of Agronomy. The works of weather forecasting and advisory services are being taken up. The centre has achieved successes in its forecasts to the tune of 81.8% of rainfall, 78.0% of cloud cover, 65.7% of maximum and minimum temperatures and 51.4% of wind speed.
