Prof V K Suri” contributions in detail as the VC, CSAUAT, Kanpur
University revamped
Prof. (Dr.) V. K. Suri took over as Vice-Chancellor of C. S. Azad University of Agriculture and
Technology, Kanpur on October 9 2006. He immediately reviewed the status of teaching,
research and extension activities of 3 faculties, 1048 ha of the university farm, seed
research and varietal evaluation work along with other research and extension activities of
the university. At that point of time, functioning of every sector of the university was far
from satisfactory. The human resource of the university was divided into different groups
and a number of forums had mushroomed and were pressing their demands. "Dharnas"
and strikes had become a routine feature. He accepted the above situation boldly as a
challenge and started handling them through administrative and managerial skills and
thwarted off all the problems soon. With the result, the various activities of the university
took a leap forward, which paid him rich dividends in many fields. The university not only
got restored to its past glory within a short period but also rose to new heights in the area
of quality education, research and extension activities. The university soon became a model
for speedy agricultural development. There was a general admiration for the
developments/improvements brought about in the university.
Some salient achievements are summarized here under:
The most important prerequisite for sustainability of quality in higher education is the
finance. There is a financial crunch in the public institutions and the universities are no
exception to this. Both the Government of India and the State Governments have been
advocating the generation of internal resources to the extent possible. After taking over as
the Vice-Chancellor of this university, Dr. Suri laid much emphasis an generation of internal
resources; he reviewed and thoughtfully planned the approach towards this goal, results of
which were evident within a short span of one year.
