61. In order that the technical messages are effectively imbibed by the clients,
there is a dire need to sharpen the communication skills of the extension
scientists, I would arrange for frequent and effective trainings in above
direction.
62. There is a dire need to develop bold, crisp, focused, location or site specific
and short messages as folders / pamphlets for distribution to the farmers.
As of now, the available items seem to be lengthy, elaborate, general and
written in low fonts. Above initiative may greatly enhance the productivity
of training material.
63. In many training camps, I have observed that, at the end of a lecture, no
follow up written material is distributed to the farmers. Keeping in view the
ultimate success of an extension activity by way of adaptation, the take
home material is very important. I shall make the above process
mandatory.
64. Extension specialists have to be especially trained to present their matter
in either simple Hindi or local dialects. As of now, situation is very messy as
the scientists are using, a lot of English which runs against the ultimate
spirit of quick adoption.
65. Keeping in view the various bottlenecks vis-à-vis adoption, I would throw
the idea of setting up Human Resource Development Centre within the
Directorate of Extension Education. The centre may fully address the
training needs of extension staff.
66. Very often, the questions posed by the farmers during training camps
pertain various departments of the Govt. In case, the concerned officers
are not present, the scientists have to face an embarrassing situation. I will
ensure that invariably, the representatives of line departments, are also
present on above occasions.
67. Demonstration is the most effective extension method. I shall prevail upon
the scientists to include practicals / demonstrations as an integral part of
their extension lectures.
68. Seeking feedback from farmers / trainers in a training course / camp would
be made compulsory. The Director of Extension would be asked to examine
the feedbacks personally followed by suitable remedial measures.
69. Crop demonstrations are an effective tool of extension. I shall try to double
their number. Areas so far not covered, would be taken up.
70. Mini Technology Information Centre (ATICs’) cum Museum would be set up
at all Krishi Vigyan Kendras. Items such as seeds / seedlings of improved
varieties, vermiculture, vermicompost, mushroom seed, farm products, etc.
