13. In order to maintain a regular and an effective communication channel with
the young boarders on all issues pertaining further improvement of hostel
life, a suggestion box was installed outside the common room at my instance.
14. The mess system, so for had been running without any mess rules/bye
laws/guidelines. In order to tone up the system, I formed a students'
committee to deliberate the subject deeply and then design a package of
guidelines. I helped them by providing various inputs. The matter passed
through various stages including the general house stage and ultimately the
package was adopted with suitable modifications. A salient feature of these
rules is that is defines the powers as well as duties of all concerned i.e. Mess
Manager, Mess Committee members, Auditors, the Cook, the Warden vis-avis
the Mess System. There was so much ambiguity in these matters earlier.
15. In order to run the Reading Room facility effectively, a new position of
Reading Room Secretary was created at my instance.
16. Several innovative routine measures were pushed through e.g. lighting of
game courts, provision of fans in the rooms, wire gauge shuttering in the
doors and windows of rooms, repair of ceilings, replacement of study tables
and chairs, modification of servant rooms, construction of concrete benches
in the open areas, etc. Most of these items were completed before my term
as Warden ended.
