SPECIAL CONTRIBUTIONS MADE TO CORPORATE LIFE OF
UNIVERSITY CAMPUS AS HOSTEL WARDEN, UNDER-GRADUATE
DHAULADHAR HOSTEL (1998-2001)
I served as the Warden of Undergraduate Dhauladhar Hostel for almost 3.5 years
(May 6, 1998- Nov. 19, 2001). I left no stones unturned to work with the aim of
turning this hostel into the best hostel of the CSK HPKV, Palampur. Some of the
notable innovations / contributions made are briefly described below. I am
happy to state that my work was highly appreciated by the then as well as the
next Honourable Vice-Chancellor.
1. At my initiative, a new dimension was added to the Hostel Nite Function
during October, 1998 and this was by way of introduction of Cultural
Contests. The idea turned out to be a great success as judged by the record
number of participants.
2. There were no boards/plates indicating various parts/areas of the hostel
when I assumed charge. I took an immediate initiative and got all areas
labeled prominently.
3. There was no Hostel Reading Room when I joined. The same was set up with
a number of magazines/news papers and nice curtains/furniture. At my
initiative, each boarder agreed to contribute Rs.5/- every month and that is
how the facility was run smoothly.
4. The water filtration equipment Aqua Guard had been lying in disuse due to
some defect in it. I had to make a lot of efforts to contact the suppliers and
finally arranged to send the equipment to Shimla and Kangra for effecting
necessary repairs. It was functioning well till the end of my tenure as
warden.
5. The hostel building/rooms were in terrible condition when I joined. With the
co-operation of the Estate Cell, the entire complex was spruced up within 2
months. Dining hall, kitchen, common room, galleries, corridors, etc., were
got whitewashed; the cupboards in all rooms were painted; latches were
replaced; stairs were repaired as well as painted. Many doors and windows
were got repaired as well as painted. Several rooms and other areas had
broken parts with no window/ ventilator glass panes. I was able to get most
of them replaced soon.
6. Most of the rooms had defective electric sockets and switches. The same
were got replaced within a short period.
