Manufacturers and retailers are spending more and more <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> their<br />

marketing m<strong>on</strong>ey <strong>on</strong> sales promoti<strong>on</strong>s. C<strong>on</strong>flicting empirical results<br />

exist with respect to the effects <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> these sales promoti<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> household<br />

purchase behavior. Based <strong>on</strong> household scanner data, new<br />

insights are developed into the drivers <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> household promoti<strong>on</strong><br />

resp<strong>on</strong>se and into the different reacti<strong>on</strong> mechanisms that c<strong>on</strong>stitute<br />

household promoti<strong>on</strong> resp<strong>on</strong>se.<br />

ERIM<br />

The Erasmus Research Institute <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Management (ERIM) is the<br />

research school in the field <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> management <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Erasmus University<br />

Rotterdam. The founding partners <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> ERIM are the Rotterdam School<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Management / Faculteit Bedrijfskunde and the Rotterdam School<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ec<strong>on</strong>omics. ERIM was founded in 1999 and is <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>ficially accredited<br />

by the Royal Netherlands Academy <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Arts and Sciences (KNAW).<br />

The research undertaken by ERIM focuses <strong>on</strong> the management <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

the firm in its envir<strong>on</strong>ment, its intra- and inter-firm relati<strong>on</strong>s, and<br />

its business processes in their interdependent c<strong>on</strong>necti<strong>on</strong>s. The<br />

objective <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> ERIM is to carry out first-rate research in management<br />

and to <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>fer an advanced Ph.D. program in management.<br />
