its final stages, should demonstrate in a practicable
manner how energy efficiency can be
increased by 15 percent on average over the
entire process chain. A series of lectures dealt
with the question of at what stages in the process
chain and by what methods energy efficiency
can be increased. These include casting
process simulation, optimisation of the injection
process by the use of alternative parting
agents, the reduction of recycling material or
energy-efficient plant and processes.
Software for casting process simulation
Software for casting process simulation considers
the complete casting process including
mould filling, solidification and cooling, and
provides the quantitative prediction of mechanical
properties, thermally induced casting
stresses and the distortion of cast components.
Simulation accurately describes a cast component’s
quality up-front before production
starts, and the casting layout can be designed
with respect to the required component properties.
This results in the reduction of preproduction
sampling, but also the precise layout
of the complete casting system leads to
energy, material and tooling savings.
The range of application of Magma solutions
comprises all cast alloys, from cast iron
to aluminium sand casting, permanent mould
and die casting up to large steel castings. The
software supports the user in component design,
the determination of melting practice
and casting methoding through to mould making,
heat treatment and finishing. In this way
costs can be saved consequently along the entire
casting manufacturing route.
Over the past ten years solutions for casting
process simulation have become obligatory
for many foundries. Magma 5 now expands
the capabilities of casting process simulation
and will further accelerate the acceptance
of this technology.
Magma 5 5.2: Neueste Version der
Gießprozess-Simulationssoftware freigegeben
Die Magma GmbH, Aachen, hat kürzlich mit
Magma 5 5.2 die neueste Version ihrer führenden
Software zur Gießprozess-Simulation
freigegeben. In der neuen Version wurden insgesamt
mehr als 160 Optimierungen für den
Anwender realisiert, die im Schwerpunkt auf
die Effizienzsteigerung bei der Auswertung
von Simulationsergebnissen zielen.
Magma 5 5.2 erlaubt jetzt den direkten Ergebnisvergleich
von bis zu vier unterschiedlichen
Versionen. Die Ergebnisse von Formfüllung,
Erstarrung oder Spannungsverlauf
können synchron animiert werden. Ein besonderes
Highlight ist die Möglichkeit, alle Ergebnisse
interaktiv in 3D am Bildschirm darzustellen
und als 3D-Videos oder 3D-Bilder automatisch
abzulegen. Dabei helfen zahlreiche
Vereinfachungen und Standardisierungen der
Ergebnisauswertung.
Neue Ergebniskriterien erlauben die effektivere
Auswertung von Schmelzeabkühlung
und kritischen Geschwindigkeiten während
der Formfüllung. Der Speisungsverlauf und
die Entwicklung von Porositäten können jetzt
während der gesamten Erstarrung verfolgt
werden. Ein neues Kriterium für die Rissvorhersage
unterstützt den Anwender bei der Bewertung
von spannungsbedingten Qualitätsproblemen.
Mit Anwenderergebnissen steht
mit der neuen Version ein mächtiges Werkzeug
zur Verfügung: Der Anwender kann seine
eigenen Kriterien einfach definieren und
sowohl als Standard in jeder Rechnung miterzeugen
oder nachträglich auswerten.
Für Anwender im Druckguss wird die Definition
des Prozesses und des Wärmeüber-
Magma 5 5.2: Latest release of Magma’s casting
process simulation software now availabl
With Magma 5 5.2, Magma GmbH, Germany,
has recently released the latest version of its
leading casting process simulation software
with significant new and improved functionality.
More than 160 improvements were implemented
for the user in the new release. A
main focus of the development efforts was on
Alle Ergebnisse können im Stereomodus untersucht werden
All results can be displayed in 3D stereo
increasing the efficiency in evaluating simulation
results.
Magma 5 5.2 now allows the direct comparison
of up to four different project versions in
the result perspective. Filling, solidification
and stress results can be animated in a synchronised
mode. A special highlight is the op-
