MODULE OBJECTIVES<br />

Core Modules<br />

CAD and Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Mathematics<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to produce<br />

basic mar<strong>in</strong>e eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g draw<strong>in</strong>gs and diagrams <strong>in</strong> compliance<br />

with regulations and codes <strong>of</strong> practice, and apply mathematical<br />

techniques <strong>in</strong> solv<strong>in</strong>g eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g problems.<br />

Electrotechnology and Controls<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to test and<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> electrical DC and AC equipment and basic pneumatic,<br />

hydraulic and electro-pneumatic control circuits and systems.<br />

Quality Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> safety and health <strong>of</strong> the <strong>in</strong>dividual, conduct prelim<strong>in</strong>ary<br />

safety <strong>in</strong>spection and risk assessment, perform checks on general<br />

arrangement draw<strong>in</strong>gs, monitor quality control systems, perform<br />

<strong>in</strong>spection work on brazed jo<strong>in</strong>ts, heat treatment <strong>of</strong> materials,<br />

pump alignment, and dimensional checks <strong>of</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />

components.<br />

Ship Systems<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to<br />

service, ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> propulsion components system, pneumatic and<br />

hydraulic systems components and perform <strong>in</strong>spection work on<br />

deck mach<strong>in</strong>ery and alignment <strong>of</strong> mar<strong>in</strong>e mach<strong>in</strong>ery.<br />

Weld<strong>in</strong>g Technology<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to perform<br />

butt, fillet, groove weld jo<strong>in</strong>ts us<strong>in</strong>g submerged arc weld<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

shielded metal arc weld<strong>in</strong>g, flux-cored arc weld<strong>in</strong>g, gas tungsten<br />

arc weld<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> flat, horizontal and vertical positions, rectify weld<br />

defects, and perform non-destructive tests on weld metals.<br />

Pipe <strong>Design</strong> and Systems<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to perform<br />

prelim<strong>in</strong>ary design <strong>of</strong> pipe rout<strong>in</strong>g plan, pipe cutt<strong>in</strong>g plan, pipe<br />

spool assembly, leak tests on pip<strong>in</strong>g systems, dimension checks<br />

on bended pipes, and produce draw<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>of</strong> pip<strong>in</strong>g systems us<strong>in</strong>g<br />

computer-aided draft<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

Fabrication Technology<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to<br />

perform structural mark<strong>in</strong>gs, l<strong>in</strong>e plan draw<strong>in</strong>gs, mark<strong>in</strong>gs and<br />

development <strong>of</strong> plates and pipes, material surface <strong>in</strong>spection,<br />

material nest<strong>in</strong>g and take-<strong>of</strong>f, and co-ord<strong>in</strong>ation work for lift<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

and plan manpower deployment and work schedule.<br />

Offshore Technology<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to perform<br />

dimension control and level checks <strong>of</strong> structures, co-ord<strong>in</strong>ate the<br />

erection <strong>of</strong> temporary supports, perform leak test on tanks and<br />

pipes, and assist <strong>in</strong> system test<strong>in</strong>g and system commission<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Project<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to<br />

apply and <strong>in</strong>tegrate the technical, social and methodological<br />

competencies <strong>in</strong> carry<strong>in</strong>g out a project related to their field <strong>of</strong><br />

study.<br />

Life Skills Modules<br />

Life skills <strong>in</strong> broad terms are the foundation skills and personal<br />

qualities that an <strong>in</strong>dividual can transfer from one job sett<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

another to manage and adapt to changes <strong>in</strong> technology and<br />

work environments.<br />

Electives (Course Specific)<br />

Basic Naval Architecture<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to produce<br />

l<strong>in</strong>e plans draw<strong>in</strong>gs from <strong>of</strong>fset tables, and perform ship form<br />

calculations and stability calculations.<br />

Ship and Offshore Survey<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to coord<strong>in</strong>ate<br />

vessel survey activities, perform prelim<strong>in</strong>ary survey<br />

on steel structures, mar<strong>in</strong>e propulsion components, electrical<br />

<strong>in</strong>stallations, and prepare report on survey recommendations <strong>of</strong><br />

rectified works.<br />

Project Management<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to plan,<br />

track and monitor projects us<strong>in</strong>g project management s<strong>of</strong>tware.<br />

Electives (Inter-discipl<strong>in</strong>ary)<br />

Entrepreneurship<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to<br />

apply the knowledge and skills acquired to identify a bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

opportunity and to develop a bus<strong>in</strong>ess plan for launch<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

operat<strong>in</strong>g a small bus<strong>in</strong>ess enterprise. The tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g also covers<br />

market and competitor analysis, and fundamentals <strong>of</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

f<strong>in</strong>ance.<br />
