MODULE OBJECTIVES Core Modules Engine Service On completion of the module, students should be able to service and replace automotive engine components. Transmission Service On completion of the module, students should be able to service and replace automotive transmission components. Control Service On completion of the module, students should be able to service and replace automotive control system components. Autotronics On completion of the module, students should be able to interpret, measure and troubleshoot electrical and electronic circuits and systems. Specialisaton Modules Engine Technology On completion of the module, students should be able to service engine system components of the Spark Ignition and Compression Ignition engines. Engine Management On completion of the module, students should be able to diagnose and rectify faults of the current engine management systems, and carry out major repair work on the ignition system of spark-ignition engine. Control Technology (Light Vehicles) On completion of the module, students should be able to diagnose, rectify and service automotive control systems involving steering, suspension and braking systems. Transmission Technology (Light Vehicles) On completion of the module, students should be able to diagnose and repair driveline system and automatic transmission components; and carry out major service, diagnosis and repair work on the transmission systems. Project On completion of the module, students should be able to plan and manage a project, and apply the skills and knowledge acquired in the course of learning to solve practical problems. Life Skills Modules Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage and adapt to changes in technology and work environments. Electives (Course Specific) Automotive Sensor Technology On completion of the module, students should be able to diagnose and rectify faults of the Direct Ignition System, On-Board Diagnosis I/II System and Controller Area Network System of light vehicles’ engine management system. Electronic Control Transmission On completion of the module, students should be able to overhaul and troubleshoot an electronic control transmission. Vehicle and Motorcycle Inspection On completion of the module, students should be able to perform roadworthiness inspection and tests on vehicles and motorcycles.
SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING Workshop Supervision and Customer Reception On completion of the module, students should be able to supervise servicing jobs and communicate to customers with good customer service skills. Industry Attachment Students will undergo an On-the-Job Training (OJT) course with automotive companies to complement and reinforce the skills and knowledge acquired at ITE and to develop competencies in other specialised areas. Electives (Cross-level) Project Management On completion of the module, students should be able to use a software application for planning and managing projects. Electives (Inter-disciplinary) Technical Mathematics On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the knowledge of mathematics to solve engineering related problems involving the use of basic arithmetic, algebra, indices, graphs and trigonometry. 249
