MODULE OBJECTIVES<br />

Core Modules<br />

Electrical Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to expla<strong>in</strong><br />

the basic pr<strong>in</strong>ciples <strong>of</strong> electricity, connect simple electrical circuits<br />

and use measur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>struments to measure and monitor electrical<br />

quantities.<br />

Electrical Installations<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall<br />

electrical wir<strong>in</strong>g systems <strong>in</strong> residential premises, commercial and<br />

<strong>in</strong>dustrial build<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> compliance with relevant local standards,<br />

regulations and codes <strong>of</strong> practice.<br />

Industrial Control and Automation<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to program<br />

PLCs for <strong>in</strong>dustrial and automation applications.<br />

Electrical Mach<strong>in</strong>es<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>spect,<br />

operate, ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> and service electrical motors <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stallations<br />

<strong>of</strong> various starters for electrical rotat<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>es. In addition,<br />

students are also tra<strong>in</strong>ed to select, connect, troubleshoot and rectify<br />

faults <strong>in</strong> motor control circuits.<br />

Specialisation Modules<br />

Light<strong>in</strong>g System and Control<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall,<br />

test and operate light<strong>in</strong>g equipment and systems used <strong>in</strong> the<br />

enterta<strong>in</strong>ment and perform<strong>in</strong>g arts <strong>in</strong>dustry.<br />

Audio Equipment and Control<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to plan,<br />

<strong>in</strong>stall, test and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> sound equipment and systems used <strong>in</strong> the<br />

enterta<strong>in</strong>ment and perform<strong>in</strong>g arts <strong>in</strong>dustry.<br />

Video and Visual Effects<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall, test<br />

and operate video equipment and systems <strong>in</strong> the enterta<strong>in</strong>ment and<br />

perform<strong>in</strong>g arts <strong>in</strong>dustry.<br />

Show Organisation and Management<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to work <strong>in</strong><br />

teams to plan and implement video, light<strong>in</strong>g and sound projects<br />

for theatre/stage production, concerts, conferences, festivals, trade<br />

shows, exhibitions, conventions and social functions <strong>in</strong> accordance<br />

with clients’ requirements.<br />

Life Skills Modules<br />

Life skills <strong>in</strong> broad terms are the foundation skills and personal<br />

qualities that an <strong>in</strong>dividual can transfer from one job sett<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

another to manage and adapt to changes <strong>in</strong> technology and work<br />

environments.<br />

Electives (Course Specific)<br />

Electrical Appliance Servic<strong>in</strong>g<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to<br />

troubleshoot common electrical appliances and equipment.<br />

Special Installations<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall<br />

non-conventional electrical systems and <strong>in</strong>stallations <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g PVC<br />

armoured cables <strong>in</strong> accordance with codes <strong>of</strong> practice.<br />
