MODULE OBJECTIVES<br />
Core Modules<br />
Mathematics and Programm<strong>in</strong>g<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to solve<br />
eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g problems <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g algebra, <strong>in</strong>dices, logarithms, graphs,<br />
trigonometry and basic statistics, and to perform comput<strong>in</strong>g tasks<br />
us<strong>in</strong>g a programm<strong>in</strong>g s<strong>of</strong>tware.<br />
Mach<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and CNC Technology<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to mach<strong>in</strong>e<br />
components us<strong>in</strong>g mill<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>es and centre lathes, create NC<br />
part programs and apply the pr<strong>in</strong>ciples <strong>of</strong> measurement.<br />
Automation and Controls<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to construct<br />
wired logic circuits and write control programs us<strong>in</strong>g programmable<br />
logic controllers (PLC) and micro-controllers <strong>in</strong> basic automation<br />
systems.<br />
Materials and Process Technology<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to conduct<br />
destructive tests and non-destructive tests, and carry out mach<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
processes us<strong>in</strong>g surface and cyl<strong>in</strong>drical gr<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>es and<br />
EDM.<br />
Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Design</strong> and Mechanics<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply the<br />
laws and pr<strong>in</strong>ciples <strong>of</strong> statics and dynamics and the fundamentals<br />
<strong>of</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g design to design a mechanical system compris<strong>in</strong>g<br />
various mach<strong>in</strong>e elements.<br />
Project<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply and<br />
<strong>in</strong>tegrate the technical, social and methodological competencies <strong>in</strong><br />
carry<strong>in</strong>g out a project related to their field <strong>of</strong> study.<br />

Industrial Automation and Robotics<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to construct<br />
electro-pneumatic circuits, program PLCs and <strong>in</strong>dustrial robots.<br />
Digital Controls<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply the<br />
concept <strong>of</strong> logic circuits and micro-controllers to write a basic course<br />
to control DC motors and stepper motors.<br />
Computer Aided Draft<strong>in</strong>g<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>terpret<br />
and draft 2-D draw<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>of</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g components us<strong>in</strong>g a CAD<br />
system as well as produce 3-D solid models.<br />
