MODULE OBJECTIVES<br />

Core Modules<br />

Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Graphics<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to produce<br />

technical sketches, eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g detailed draw<strong>in</strong>gs, 3D solid<br />

modell<strong>in</strong>g, assembly draw<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> accordance with ISO standards.<br />

Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Mathematics and Statics<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> mathematics to solve eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g problems <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the use <strong>of</strong> algebra, <strong>in</strong>dices, logarithms, trigonometry and basic<br />

statistics. Students would also be equipped with the fundamental<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> statics and be able to solve eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g problems<br />

<strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g equilibrium <strong>of</strong> bodies subjected to forces.<br />

Build<strong>in</strong>g Technology<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to draw<br />

the constructional details <strong>of</strong> timber floors, doors, w<strong>in</strong>dows, ro<strong>of</strong>s,<br />

ceil<strong>in</strong>gs, and prepare work<strong>in</strong>g draw<strong>in</strong>gs for 2-storey residential<br />

build<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />

Build<strong>in</strong>g Structures<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to draw<br />

re<strong>in</strong>forced concrete floor, foundation layout plans and foot<strong>in</strong>g<br />

schedule, re<strong>in</strong>forced concrete staircases and schedule, re<strong>in</strong>forced<br />

concrete draw<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>of</strong> structural components such as, foundations,<br />

reta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g walls and basement structures and precast concrete<br />

column.<br />

Re<strong>in</strong>forced Concrete <strong>Design</strong><br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to draw<br />

structural layout plan, pil<strong>in</strong>g plan, sectional views <strong>of</strong> piles and pile<br />

caps, re<strong>in</strong>forced concrete core walls and re<strong>in</strong>forced concrete water<br />

tank, and prepare column schedules.<br />

RC Beam and Slab <strong>Design</strong><br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to prepare<br />

column and wall load<strong>in</strong>g plans, and detailed draw<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>of</strong> re<strong>in</strong>forced<br />

concrete beams and slabs, precast concrete beam, precast concrete<br />

slab and precast concrete wall panels.<br />

Steel Structure <strong>Design</strong><br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to produce<br />

a set <strong>of</strong> steel structure work<strong>in</strong>g draw<strong>in</strong>gs with detailed connections<br />

<strong>of</strong> steel members.<br />

<strong>Civil</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Design</strong><br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to prepare<br />

detailed external works and civil eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g draw<strong>in</strong>gs such as<br />

manholes, roads, culverts, dra<strong>in</strong>age and sewerage systems.<br />

Project<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply and<br />

<strong>in</strong>tegrate the technical, social and methodological competencies <strong>in</strong><br />

carry<strong>in</strong>g out a project related to their field <strong>of</strong> study.<br />

Life Skills Modules<br />

Life skills <strong>in</strong> broad terms are the foundation skills and personal<br />

qualities that an <strong>in</strong>dividual can transfer from one job sett<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

another to manage and adapt to changes <strong>in</strong> technology and work<br />

environments.<br />
