COURSE STRUCTURE Module Title Module Code Credits GENERAL Overseas Experiential Programme EP49040 2 Overseas Experiential Programme EP49050 3 Overseas Experiential Programme EP59040 2 Overseas Experiential Programme EP59050 3 Note: The offer of electives is subject to the training schedule of respective ITE Colleges. Students are advised to check with their Class Advisors on the availability of the elective modules they intend to pursue. MODULE OBJECTIVES Core Modules Engineering Graphics On completion of the module, students should be able to produce technical sketches, engineering detailed drawings, 3D solid modelling, assembly drawings in accordance with ISO standards. Engineering Mathematics and Statics On completion of the module, students should be able to apply knowledge of mathematics to solve engineering problems involving the use of algebra, indices, logarithms, trigonometry and basic statistics. Students would also be equipped with the fundamental knowledge of statics and be able to solve engineering problems involving equilibrium of bodies subjected to forces. Building Technology On completion of the module, students should be able to draw the constructional details of timber floors, doors, windows, roofs, ceilings, and prepare working drawings for 2-storey residential buildings. Building Structures On completion of the module, students should be able to draw reinforced concrete floor, foundation layout plans and footing schedule, reinforced concrete staircases and schedule, reinforced concrete drawings of structural components such as, foundations, retaining walls and basement structures and precast concrete column. Reinforced Concrete Design On completion of the module, students should be able to draw structural layout plan, piling plan, sectional views of piles and pile caps, reinforced concrete core walls and reinforced concrete water tank, and prepare column schedules. RC Beam and Slab Design On completion of the module, students should be able to prepare column and wall loading plans, and detailed drawings of reinforced concrete beams and slabs, precast concrete beam, precast concrete slab and precast concrete wall panels. Steel Structure Design On completion of the module, students should be able to produce a set of steel structure working drawings with detailed connections of steel members. Civil Engineering Design On completion of the module, students should be able to prepare detailed external works and civil engineering drawings such as manholes, roads, culverts, drainage and sewerage systems. Project On completion of the module, students should be able to apply and integrate the technical, social and methodological competencies in carrying out a project related to their field of study. Life Skills Modules Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage and adapt to changes in technology and work environments. 212
SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING Electives (Course Specific) Elementary Quantities On completion of the module, students should be able to calculate and prepare the bill of quantities for simple building work in accordance with Civil Engineering Standard Method of Measurement Code. Model Making On completion of the module, students should be able to construct a scaled model of a structural frame. 3D Structural CAD On completion of the module, students should be able to generate and modify 3D model using 3D modelling and animation software. Land Surveying On completion of the module, students should be able to perform simple levelling work, set out horizontal angles and calculate reduced levels from field bookings. Electives (Inter-disciplinary) Project Management On completion of the elective, students should be able to plan, track and monitor projects using project management software. Entrepreneurship On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to identify a business opportunity and to develop a business plan for launching and operating a small enterprise.
