MODULE OBJECTIVES<br />
Core Modules<br />
Mechanical Fabrication and Draft<strong>in</strong>g<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to fabricate<br />
and fit eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g components, by bench fitt<strong>in</strong>g and drill<strong>in</strong>g<br />
operation accord<strong>in</strong>g to the specifications <strong>in</strong> a work<strong>in</strong>g draw<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
Students are also tra<strong>in</strong>ed to <strong>in</strong>terpret eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g bluepr<strong>in</strong>t draw<strong>in</strong>gs<br />
and draw simple eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g components us<strong>in</strong>g CAD system.<br />
Industrial Pip<strong>in</strong>g and Valve System<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to carry out<br />
m<strong>in</strong>or repair and replacement <strong>of</strong> fluid supply pipes and fitt<strong>in</strong>gs and<br />
to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>, troubleshoot and repair <strong>in</strong>dustrial fluid valves.<br />
Mach<strong>in</strong>ery Ma<strong>in</strong>tenance<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be to carry out a<br />
preventive ma<strong>in</strong>tenance course, ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> and service bear<strong>in</strong>gs and<br />
basic eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g mechanisms, lubrication systems and mechanical<br />
transmission systems; lift and move heavy loads safely.<br />
Industrial Pneumatics and Hydraulics<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall,<br />
ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> and troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems <strong>in</strong> plant<br />
mach<strong>in</strong>ery and equipment.<br />
Turn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>terpret<br />
eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g bluepr<strong>in</strong>t draw<strong>in</strong>gs, turn components safely us<strong>in</strong>g<br />
centre lathe to achieve a l<strong>in</strong>ear dimensional accuracy up to class IT11,<br />
an angular dimensional accuracy <strong>of</strong> ±30’ and surface roughness<br />
between 1.6 to 3.2 microns.<br />
Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall,<br />
ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> and troubleshoot electro-pneumatic and electro-hydraulic<br />
systems <strong>in</strong> plant mach<strong>in</strong>ery and auxiliary equipment.<br />
Mach<strong>in</strong>ery and Electrical Ma<strong>in</strong>tenance<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>,<br />
troubleshoot and repair mach<strong>in</strong>ery, equipment and electrical<br />
accessories, connect up simple electrical circuits and carry out a<br />
planned ma<strong>in</strong>tenance course.<br />
Plant Equipment Ma<strong>in</strong>tenance<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall,<br />
ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>, troubleshoot and repair air compressor system, mechanical<br />
conveyor system and <strong>in</strong>dustrial fluid pumps.<br />
Project<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to plan and<br />
manage project, and apply the skills and knowledge acquired <strong>in</strong> the<br />
course <strong>of</strong> learn<strong>in</strong>g to solve practical problems.<br />
Life Skills Modules<br />
Life skills <strong>in</strong> broad terms are the foundation skills and personal<br />
qualities that an <strong>in</strong>dividual can transfer from one job sett<strong>in</strong>g to<br />
another to manage and adapt to changes <strong>in</strong> technology and work<br />
environments.<br />
Electives (Course Specific)<br />
Metrology<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to understand<br />
the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>spection and, verify and measure eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />
components accord<strong>in</strong>g to technical draw<strong>in</strong>g us<strong>in</strong>g appropriate<br />
tools.<br />
Computer Aided Draft<strong>in</strong>g – 2D<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to produce<br />
eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g draw<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> first and third angle projections, dimension<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
section<strong>in</strong>g and material list <strong>of</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g components.<br />
