COURSE SYNOPSIS<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the course, students should be able to<br />
• Interpret technical draw<strong>in</strong>gs and hydraulic/pneumatic circuit<br />
diagrams.<br />
• Carry out preventive ma<strong>in</strong>tenance and <strong>in</strong>spection on<br />
mach<strong>in</strong>ery and equipment.<br />
• Fabricate and re-condition mach<strong>in</strong>e parts us<strong>in</strong>g basic handtools<br />
and power hand-tools, drill<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>es, lathes and<br />
mill<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>es.<br />
• Install, service, troubleshoot, repair and overhaul basic mach<strong>in</strong>e<br />
tools, pumps, valves, compressors and conveyor systems.<br />
• Install, service, troubleshoot and repair basic hydraulic and<br />
pneumatic systems.<br />
• Install pipework system.<br />
• Rectify electrical faults <strong>of</strong> mach<strong>in</strong>ery.<br />

<strong>Nitec</strong> <strong>in</strong> Mechanical Technology graduates are employed by<br />
companies that manufacture metal and plastic products, and food<br />
and beverage items. Some <strong>of</strong> the job titles held by graduates <strong>in</strong>clude<br />
Ma<strong>in</strong>tenance Technician, Mechanical Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Technician and<br />
Industrial Mach<strong>in</strong>ery Technician. There are excellent opportunities<br />
for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond. The<br />
challenge is for students to prepare themselves by upgrad<strong>in</strong>g their<br />
