Life Skills Modules<br />

Life skills <strong>in</strong> broad terms are the foundation skills and personal<br />

qualities that an <strong>in</strong>dividual can transfer from one job sett<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

another to manage and adapt to changes <strong>in</strong> technology and work<br />

environments.<br />

Electives (Course Specific)<br />

Electrical Appliance Servic<strong>in</strong>g<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to troubleshoot<br />

common electrical appliances and equipment.<br />

Special Installation<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall<br />

non-conventional electrical systems and <strong>in</strong>stallations <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g PVC<br />

armoured cables <strong>in</strong> accordance with code <strong>of</strong> practice.<br />

Smart Home<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to program a<br />

smart home system for controll<strong>in</strong>g light<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> a house.<br />

Video Surveillance System<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall, test<br />

and operate the video surveillance systems and equipment.<br />

PLC Applications and Network<strong>in</strong>g<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to set up,<br />

configure and test a PLC network system for an <strong>in</strong>dustrial automation<br />

system.<br />

Laser Show Production<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply<br />

the knowledge <strong>of</strong> laser s<strong>of</strong>tware programme <strong>in</strong> produc<strong>in</strong>g an<br />

enterta<strong>in</strong>ment laser show.<br />

Enterta<strong>in</strong>ment Light<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Design</strong><br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply the<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> a basic light<strong>in</strong>g design pr<strong>in</strong>ciples and techniques <strong>in</strong><br />

produc<strong>in</strong>g a small enterta<strong>in</strong>ment show us<strong>in</strong>g light<strong>in</strong>g visualization<br />

s<strong>of</strong>tware.<br />

Electives (Inter-discipl<strong>in</strong>ary)<br />

Technical Mathematics<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply the<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> mathematics to solve eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g related problems<br />

<strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g the use <strong>of</strong> basic arithmetic, algebra, <strong>in</strong>dices, graphs and<br />

trigonometry.<br />

Small Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Management<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to identify a<br />

significant bus<strong>in</strong>ess opportunity, prepare a promotional package and<br />

conduct a sales event for a small bus<strong>in</strong>ess.<br />

Electives (Cross-level)<br />

Sensor Technology<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall and<br />

test sensor for <strong>in</strong>dustrial and electrical eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g applications.<br />

SCADA<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to expla<strong>in</strong><br />

the basic configuration and provide an overview <strong>of</strong> a SCADA system.<br />

They are also tra<strong>in</strong>ed to expla<strong>in</strong> the techniques and methods used<br />

on data acquisition, the control <strong>of</strong> the field devices, communication,<br />

applications and operation <strong>of</strong> the system.<br />

Structured Cabl<strong>in</strong>g<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to expla<strong>in</strong><br />

the pr<strong>in</strong>ciple <strong>of</strong> structured cabl<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>in</strong>stall a standard cabl<strong>in</strong>g<br />

system accord<strong>in</strong>g to the relevant standard. They should also be able<br />

to perform test<strong>in</strong>g and trouble-shoot<strong>in</strong>g and certify the quality <strong>of</strong><br />

structured cabl<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stallations with copper and fibre-optics cables.<br />

Applied Pneumatic Control<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to develop<br />

control circuits based on knowledge <strong>of</strong> the construction, pr<strong>in</strong>ciples<br />

<strong>of</strong> operation and application <strong>of</strong> the various components and<br />

equipment <strong>in</strong> electromechanical, pneumatic and electro-pneumatic<br />

control systems.<br />

Project Management<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to use a<br />

s<strong>of</strong>tware application for plann<strong>in</strong>g and manag<strong>in</strong>g projects.<br />

Electives (Jo<strong>in</strong>t ITE-Industry)<br />

PLC Control Builder<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to use PLC<br />

eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g tool to configure projects based on IE1131-3 Standard<br />

with one or several applications runn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> PLC.<br />
