<strong>Nitec</strong> <strong>in</strong> Mechatronics (Equipment Assembly)<br />

COURSE SYNOPSIS<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the course, students should be able to<br />

• Ascerta<strong>in</strong> job requirements from draw<strong>in</strong>gs or other<br />

specifications.<br />

• Construct mechanical support.<br />

• Fix, adjust and align mechanical sub-assemblies.<br />

• Fix, adjust and align electrical sub-assemblies.<br />

• Fix, adjust and align pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.<br />

• Perform system <strong>in</strong>tegration and test<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

• Identify and troubleshoot possible faults <strong>in</strong> the system.<br />

• Conduct acceptance tests on system.<br />

• Commission the system (Buy-<strong>of</strong>f).<br />

JOB OPPORTUNITIES<br />

<strong>Nitec</strong> <strong>in</strong> Mechatronics (Equipment Assembly) graduates are<br />

employed by companies <strong>in</strong> the high-technology semi-conductor<br />

equipment manufactur<strong>in</strong>g and servic<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustries. Some <strong>of</strong> the job<br />

titles held by graduates <strong>in</strong>clude Assembly Technician (Mechatronics),<br />

Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Assistant, and Service/Assembly Technician. There<br />

are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory<br />

positions and beyond. The challenge is for students to prepare<br />

themselves by upgrad<strong>in</strong>g their technical skills and knowledge by<br />

tak<strong>in</strong>g up higher-level courses.<br />
