MODULE OBJECTIVES Core Modules Engineering Graphics On completion of the module, students should be able to produce technical sketches, engineering detailed drawings, 3D solid modelling, assembly drawings in accordance with ISO standards. Engineering Mathematics and Statics On completion of the module, students should be able to apply knowledge of mathematics to solve engineering problems involving the use of algebra, indices, logarithms, trigonometry and basic statistics. Students would also be equipped with the fundamental knowledge of statics and be able to solve engineering problems involving equilibrium of bodies subjected to forces. Engineering Project Management On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the tools and techniques that enable the project team to organize and manage their project work to meet requirements and challenges. Engineering Science On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the acquired knowledge on fundamental of thermal mechanics, fluid mechanics and corrosion control in heat transfer and fluid mechanics calculations and selection of corrosion techniques. Air-Conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation System Design On completion of the module, students should be able to estimate the cooling load of a building, perform simple design on air-conditioning ducting, and prepare working drawings for ducting layouts and related pipework using catalogues and in accordance to the standard codes of practice and government regulations. Building Services and Fire Protection Design On completion of the module, students should be able to produce simple piping layouts and prepare drawings on plumbing system, sanitary system and sprinkler system in accordance to the standard codes of practice and government regulations. Electrical and Lift System Design On completion of the module, students should be able to perform simple design on electrical system for buildings, and prepare the drawings in accordance to the standard code of practice and governmental regulations. Green Building Technology and Design On completion of the module, students would be equipped with the fundamental skills and knowledge of green building technologies and design, and incorporate environmental-friendly features in building facility design. Students would also be equipped with the skills and knowledge on the Building Management System, including its advantages to facility management. Project On completion of the module, students should be able to prepare drawings and brief reports of the project work on building services piping, electrical installation, air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation in multi-storey buildings. Life Skills Modules Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage and adapt to changes in technology and work environments. Electives (Course Specific) Solid Modelling On completion of the module, students would be able to appreciate the benefits of parametric modelling and be able to use the 3D modelling software to perform mechanical design and prepare working and presentation drawings. 218
SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING Electives (Inter-disciplinary) Entrepreneurship On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired from the course to identify a business opportunity and to develop a business plan for launching and operating a small enterprise. The training also covers market and competitor analysis, and fundamentals of business finance. Land Surveying On completion of the module, students should be able to perform simple levelling work, set out horizontal angles and calculate reduced levels from field bookings. Calculus (Differentiation) On completion of the module, students should be able to apply knowledge of mathematics to solve engineering related problems involving the use of Differentiation. Calculus (Integration) On completion of the module, students should be able to apply knowledge of mathematics to solve engineering related problems involving the use of Integration.
