MODULE OBJECTIVES<br />

Core Modules<br />

Electrical Services<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>,<br />

troubleshoot, and carry out simple alteration and amendment works<br />

<strong>of</strong> a domestic electrical system.<br />

Mechanical Servic<strong>in</strong>g<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>terpret<br />

bluepr<strong>in</strong>t draw<strong>in</strong>gs, carry out bench-fitt<strong>in</strong>g work, fabricate and<br />

repair metal components, perform basic arc weld<strong>in</strong>g, carry out<br />

preventive ma<strong>in</strong>tenance <strong>of</strong> mach<strong>in</strong>ery and eng<strong>in</strong>e, small dieseldriven<br />

generators and pumps.<br />

Residential Air-Condition<strong>in</strong>g Services<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to fabricate<br />

refrigeration pip<strong>in</strong>g, perform leak test<strong>in</strong>g, evacuation and charg<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>of</strong> refrigeration system, rout<strong>in</strong>e ma<strong>in</strong>tenance, parts replacement,<br />

<strong>in</strong>stall and test unitary-type and split-type residential air-condition<strong>in</strong>g<br />

units.<br />

CAD and Pipe Installation<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>,<br />

troubleshoot, service and repair pip<strong>in</strong>g systems <strong>in</strong> build<strong>in</strong>gs and<br />

prepare pip<strong>in</strong>g draw<strong>in</strong>g us<strong>in</strong>g CAD s<strong>of</strong>tware.<br />

Specialisation Modules<br />

Commercial Air-Condition<strong>in</strong>g Systems<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall,<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>, service and repair air-cooled and water-cooled aircondition<strong>in</strong>g<br />

systems for commercial applications <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g system<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g variable refrigerant volume, troubleshoot and repair aircondition<strong>in</strong>g<br />

equipment, <strong>in</strong>terpret refrigeration pip<strong>in</strong>g and wir<strong>in</strong>g<br />

circuits and replace faulty components.<br />

Integrated Build<strong>in</strong>g Management Systems<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>stall,<br />

diagnose and service the control circuits <strong>of</strong> chilled water systems,<br />

<strong>in</strong>duction motors, air-handl<strong>in</strong>g units, Direct Digital Controllers (DDC)<br />

and other related components. They are also tra<strong>in</strong>ed to operate and<br />

monitor the Build<strong>in</strong>g Automation Systems.<br />

Commercial Refrigeration Systems<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to troubleshoot<br />

faults <strong>in</strong> refrigeration equipment and to <strong>in</strong>stall refrigeration systems<br />

for cold storage applications <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g refrigeration compressors and<br />

evaporators, capacity controls, operation <strong>of</strong> commercial refrigeration<br />

system.<br />

Air-Condition<strong>in</strong>g Distribution Systems<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to <strong>in</strong>terpret<br />

the air distribution and pip<strong>in</strong>g draw<strong>in</strong>gs for air-condition<strong>in</strong>g systems<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g duct and pipe siz<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong>stallation <strong>of</strong> air handl<strong>in</strong>g units,<br />

duct<strong>in</strong>g, water pumps, pip<strong>in</strong>g, function <strong>of</strong> fitt<strong>in</strong>gs, balanc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> air<br />

and water and production <strong>of</strong> the work<strong>in</strong>g draw<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />
