MODULE OBJECTIVES<br />

Core Modules<br />

Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Graphics<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to produce<br />

technical sketches, eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g detailed draw<strong>in</strong>gs, 3D solid<br />

modell<strong>in</strong>g, assembly draw<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> accordance with ISO standards.<br />

Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Mathematics and Statics<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> mathematics to solve eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g problems <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the use <strong>of</strong> algebra, <strong>in</strong>dices, logarithms, trigonometry and basic<br />

statistics. Students would also be equipped with the fundamental<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> statics and be able to solve eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g problems<br />

<strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g equilibrium <strong>of</strong> bodies subjected to forces.<br />

Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Project Management<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply the<br />

tools and techniques that enable the project team to organize and<br />

manage their project work to meet requirements and challenges.<br />

Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Science<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to apply the<br />

acquired knowledge on fundamental <strong>of</strong> thermal mechanics, fluid<br />

mechanics and corrosion control <strong>in</strong> heat transfer and fluid mechanics<br />

calculations and selection <strong>of</strong> corrosion techniques.<br />

Offshore and Mar<strong>in</strong>e Pip<strong>in</strong>g System <strong>Design</strong><br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to perform<br />

simple design for the mechanical pip<strong>in</strong>g, mar<strong>in</strong>e system, life safety<br />

and fire fight<strong>in</strong>g appliance <strong>of</strong> a ship, and prepare the draw<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong><br />

accordance to ISO standards, appropriate classification society, Safety<br />

<strong>of</strong> Life at Sea (SOLAS) and International Maritime Organization (IMO)<br />

requirements.<br />

Offshore and Mar<strong>in</strong>e Electrical System <strong>Design</strong><br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to perform<br />

simple design on electrical system <strong>of</strong> a ship, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g control and<br />

communication system, and prepare the draw<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> accordance to<br />

ISO standards and appropriate classification society requirements.<br />

Offshore and Mar<strong>in</strong>e HVAC System <strong>Design</strong><br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to estimate<br />

the cool<strong>in</strong>g load <strong>of</strong> a ship, perform simple design on air-condition<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and mechanical ventilation duct<strong>in</strong>g, heat<strong>in</strong>g system and prepare<br />

work<strong>in</strong>g draw<strong>in</strong>gs for duct<strong>in</strong>g layouts and related pipe work <strong>in</strong><br />

accordance to ISO standards and appropriate classification society<br />

requirements.<br />

Project<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to prepare<br />

draw<strong>in</strong>gs and brief reports <strong>of</strong> the project work on <strong>of</strong>fshore and<br />

mar<strong>in</strong>e structure, mechanical pip<strong>in</strong>g, mar<strong>in</strong>e system, life safety and<br />

fire fight<strong>in</strong>g appliance system, electrical, control and communication<br />

system and HVAC system <strong>of</strong> ships.<br />

Life Skills Modules<br />

Life skills <strong>in</strong> broad terms are the foundation skills and personal<br />

qualities that an <strong>in</strong>dividual can transfer from one job sett<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

another to manage and adapt to changes <strong>in</strong> technology and work<br />

environments.<br />

Electives (Course Specific)<br />

Solid Modell<strong>in</strong>g<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students would be able to appreciate<br />

the benefits <strong>of</strong> parametric modell<strong>in</strong>g and be able to use the 3D<br />

modell<strong>in</strong>g s<strong>of</strong>tware to perform mechanical design and prepare<br />

work<strong>in</strong>g and presentation draw<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />

Offshore and Mar<strong>in</strong>e Structure <strong>Design</strong><br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the module, students should be able to prepare<br />

<strong>of</strong>fshore and mar<strong>in</strong>e structure layout and accommodation draw<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

<strong>in</strong> accordance to ISO standards and appropriate classification society<br />

requirements.<br />
