The School of Nursing offers innovative program options to meet the professional needs of students for entry into nursing or for advanced preparation. The undergraduate<br />
program offerings which prepare nurses to enter practice and meet eligibility requirements for NCLEXare: Bachelor of Science Professional Option, Accelerated Second<br />
Degree B.S.Option and LPN transitioning to Bachelor of Science. These programs and the RNBS, Nursing Completion Option are designed to prepare a nurse generalist<br />
to provide comprehensive nursing care for people of all ages within a variety of health care settings. In addition, the degree options provide academic preparation for<br />
advanced degrees in Nursing. The Master’s level program prepares Clinical Nurse Specialists in Adult Health or Critical Care, Family Nurse Practitioners, and Nurse Executives.<br />
Students make take electives in courses that are relevant for the chosen area of specialization. Four master’s level certificate programs in Nursing Education, Adult Health,<br />
Clinical Nurse Specialist, Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist and Family Nurse Practitioner are also available. The graduate program has a strong clinical emphasis and<br />
prepares graduates for diverse leadershiproles. All programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).<br />
Throughout the programs, various part-time and full-time employment opportunities are available in local health care agencies giving students work experience that<br />
relates to their university studies. Flexible schedules allowstudents to pursue programs part-time and full-time. These are university programs, with students sharing in the<br />
social and cultural aspects of college life, while developing their potential as persons, citizens, and nurses. Admission to nursing programs is competitive and is determined<br />
by program admission committees in the School of Nursing. Special requirements for admission and progression are available through the School.<br />

Admission Requirements for the<br />
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM (LEADING TO THE RN)<br />
FOR BACHELOR’S PROFESSIONAL OPTION APPLICANTS<br />
The applicant must be officially accepted by the <strong>University</strong> before his or her application can be<br />
considered for admission to the School of Nursing. Application forms for admission to the <strong>University</strong><br />
must be obtained fromthe Office of Admissions, Lawshe Hall, <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong>, Hammond, IN,<br />
46323. If the applicant has previously attended <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong>, but has not been enrolled for<br />
three semesters or longer, he/she must make reapplication to the <strong>University</strong> Admissions Office.<br />
Admissions are once yearly for the Fall semester and applications must be completed by February 1st.<br />
This is a limited enrollment program. Admission is competitive. Applicants are considered on the basis of<br />
test scores, prior academic achievement and space available.<br />
When more qualified applicants than openings are available, applicants will be ranked by the<br />
Undergraduate Nursing Admission, Progression and Graduation Committee. The best qualified applicants<br />
will be admitted. If you have any questions please see your advisor.<br />
The following admission criteria must be submitted to the Office of Admissions:<br />
1. Application to the Undergraduate Degree Program in Nursing<br />
2. High School transcript or high school equivalence credentials; the applicant<br />
with a GED must complete 9 hours of <strong>University</strong> credit or have a SAT com<br />
posite of 1000 or above before they will be considered for admission.<br />
3. Post-high school transcripts.<br />
