Criteria Used for Selection of Class:<br />

Admission into the MOT program based on completed undergraduate degree, completed prerequisite<br />

courses, a minimum of twelve hours of observation and/or volunteer workin at least<br />

three (3) different occupational therapy settings (e.g. acute care hospital, outpatient, community<br />

mental health, school system, etc.) with either an occupational therapist or an occupational<br />

therapy assistant; a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and<br />

Preoptometry Program<br />

(90 credits, including 20 credits at the 30000-40000 level)<br />

<strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> communicates withthe Indiana<strong>University</strong> School of Optometry tostay updatedon<br />

this school’s admissionrequirements. However, it is uptothe individual student tomake sure that his/her program<br />

satisfies the admissionrequirements for any school that he/she applies. After completingthe requiredcourses and<br />

90 credit hours of undergraduate work, students canapply tooptometry school. Of the 90 credit hours, at least<br />

20 must be at the 30000-40000 level. If one chooses toapply after 90 credit hours, there are additional academic<br />

requirements that must be met. Students are responsible for understandingthese additional requirements and<br />

makingsure that individual programs cover the neededareas. The majority of applicants have anundergraduate<br />

degree. Shadowinganoptometrist is recommended. Inaddition, students must take the Optometry College AdmissionTest<br />
