Students select among the Clinical Nurse Specialist (45 credits) Family Nurse Practitioner (45 credits),<br />

or Nursing Executive (43 credits) options. Full-time study requires six semesters including summer;<br />

part-time study options are available.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

1. Graduation from an accredited baccalaureate program in nursing.<br />

2. Evidence of current registered nurse licensure.<br />

3. Minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0<br />

4. Basic physical assessment course.<br />

5. Introductory statistics course (within five years prior to admission).<br />

6. Criminal background check clearance (Information about testing to<br />

be obtained through School of Nursing.)<br />

An applicant who does not meet one or more of the admission requirements may be considered for<br />

conditional admission status. In addition to the preceding requirements for admission, the School of<br />

Nursing adheres to <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> Graduate School Admission policies regarding English as a foreign<br />

language.<br />

Special Graduation Requirements<br />

Final graduation grade point average of a “B” or better on the approved Plan of Study. Minimumgrade<br />

of “B” in all core and specialty required nursing courses. The programmust be completed within 6 years<br />

Specialist Post-Master’s Certificate Programs<br />

Purpose:<br />

The purpose of the Adult Health or Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist<br />

Certificate Programs at <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> will be to provide Clinical Nurse<br />

Specialist (CNS) preparation to qualified Master’s prepared nurses. CNSs are<br />

advanced practice nurses who are uniquely prepared to meet complexpatients’<br />

needs for expert nursing care. In addition, CNSs advance the practice of nursing<br />

through their positive influence on nurses, nursing practice and healthcare<br />

systems. The target audience for this program includes master’s prepared nurses<br />

that are interested in becoming clinical nurse specialists.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

The admission process for the Adult Health or Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist Post-Master’s Certificate<br />

Programs adheres toGraduate School Admission policies regarding English as a foreign language<br />

and parallels that for students seeking a Master’s Degree in Nursing. Specific requirements are:<br />

1. Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution or admission and<br />

enrollment in a master’s degree program in nursing.<br />

2. Minimum graduate GPA of 3.0/4.0 with the possibility of conditional admission<br />

for applicants who do not meet this requirement.<br />

3. Evidence of current registered nurse licensure.<br />

4. A minimum of one year or 1500 hours of experience as a registered nurse.<br />

5. Criminal background check clearance (Information about testing to be obtained<br />

through School of Nursing).<br />

Completion Requirements<br />

The certificate requires students tocomplete a minimumof 12 credit hours and a maximumof 25 credit<br />

hours consisting of the following courses.<br />
