Twelve academic departments and schools offer thirteen master’s degrees as well<br />

as other programs of graduate study at <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> to meet the postbaccalaureate<br />

needs of the citizens of northwest Indiana and surrounding areas.<br />

The programs are flexible to suit the needs of graduate students and their employers.<br />

They provide development for industry, business and government professionals<br />

through focused courses and degrees designed for a wide variety of student ages,<br />

schedules, and career paths, including those leading to doctoral study.<br />

Students interested in graduate study should refer to the individual departmental listings<br />

of degree requirements elsewhere in this catalog. Correspondence about admission to the<br />

Graduate School and inquiries about a specific school’s/department’s requirements should<br />

be addressed to the head of the school/department to which the applicant seeks admission.<br />

Admission to the Graduate School<br />

Degree-Seeking Applicants<br />

Applicants for specific graduate degrees must apply for graduate study via the<br />

online application located at http:www.gradschool.purdue.edu/admissions/<br />

Applicants should apply preferably four months, but no later than one month,<br />

prior to the semester of desired admission.<br />

All applications are first evaluated by a departmental committee at <strong>Purdue</strong><br />

<strong>Calumet</strong>. If advanced for admission, the application is submitted to the Office of<br />

Graduate Studies for final processing and approval.<br />

General Admission Requirements:<br />

1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.<br />

2. Graduation indexof 3.0 (B) on a 4.0-point scale (individual departments<br />

and schools may set higher indexes).<br />

3. Other requirements, as detailed by individual departments and schools,<br />

typically a goal statement or statement of purpose.<br />

4. Academic ability for graduate work.<br />

Applicants must submit:<br />

1. A completed online application.<br />

2. Three letters of recommendation.<br />

3. Two official transcripts of all previous college and university course workcompleted.<br />

4. A $55.00 application fee payable online by credit card — details in online application.<br />

5. Other documents as required by the individual department or school.<br />

6. Other evidence of academic performance as required by the individual<br />

department or school.<br />

7. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) if required by the particular department or<br />

school. Consult the individual department or school for additional information.<br />

8. The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) may be required by the<br />

School of Management. Consult the School of Management for additional information.<br />

When to apply<br />

Applications, transcripts and supporting materials should be submitted to<br />

the department or school preferably four months, but not less than one month,<br />

before the beginning of the session for which the applicant seeks admission.<br />

Some programs may have specific deadlines for application. Please check with the<br />

department in which admission is sought for information on the specific deadline.<br />

An applicant is not officially admitted until notification from the Graduate<br />

School. International students should check with the International Students<br />

Services office for application deadlines.<br />

Non-Degree Graduate Status (Temporary Admission Status)<br />

Students who wish to pursue study beyond the bachelor’s degree, but may not<br />

have specific degree objectives, may take graduate courses by submitting:<br />

1. A completed temporary, non-degree online application located at<br />

http://www.gradschool.purdue.edu/admissions/<br />

There is no fee for submission of a non-degree application.<br />

2. One copy of the bachelor’s degree final transcript showing the date of degree completion.<br />

3. Note: Temporary or non-degree students are not eligible for financial aid or<br />

Graduate Teaching Aide Positions.
