Mission Statement<br />
Student Affairs, a primary partner for holistic learning and development at <strong>Purdue</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong>, is committed to assisting students as well as faculty, staff,<br />
parents and other family members. Comprised of individuals who care deeply<br />
about students, staff in Student Affairs stand ready to offer guidance and support.<br />

Students withDisabilities<br />
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), all qualified<br />
students enrolled in courses are entitled to appropriate accommodations. It is the<br />
student’s responsibility to have disability documentation on file in the Office of<br />
Student Support Services, meet with the Assistant Director, Disabled Student<br />
Development Services for an intake to determine their accommodations and<br />
inform the instructor of their classroom accommodations.<br />

The mission of the Office of Disability Resources is to provide reasonable<br />
accommodations to students with documented disabilities in an effective and<br />
efficient manner; assist students with disabilities in building self-advocacy skills;<br />
and to build collaborative partnerships with <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> faculty and<br />
staff, as well as, agencies which provide services to persons with disabilities within<br />
the surrounding communities.<br />
In order for students to receive academic accommodations students must<br />
register with the Office of Disability Resources and provide documentation of their<br />
disability. Disability documentation must be current, state what the disability is,<br />
as well as, the functional limitations caused by the disability and/ or its treatment.<br />
Please contact the Office of Disability Resources for additional guidelines for disability<br />
documentation.<br />
Center for Student Achievement<br />
Academic Advising<br />

Each academic department and school and the Center for Student Achievement<br />
offer academic advising for specific programs of study. Students consult their<br />
academic advisors for information on program requirements and career options<br />
in their majors. Every student is assigned an academic advisor and should meet<br />
with that advisor three times per year..<br />
Information Center<br />

The Information Center is a starting place to gain general information about<br />
the university and the campus. The Information Center is staffed by knowledgeable<br />
people who can further direct students to more specific sources of campus<br />
information.<br />
The Information Center makes Peregrine van reservations (for students and staff ).<br />
The Counseling Center<br />

The Counseling Center offers a range of psychological and career counseling<br />
services to all students at <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> toward enhancing student<br />
academic and personal success and career satisfaction. Services are provided in<br />
individual, couples, or groupformats and include assessment, brief counseling and<br />
psychotherapy, referral, consultation, and psychoeducational workshops. These<br />
services are provided by licensed mental health professionals and postgraduate<br />
counselors under their supervision. All psychological services are confidential as<br />
protected by law.<br />
Personal issues such as adjustment to college/work, relationshipconcerns, anxiety,<br />
depression, alcohol and drug use, body image/eating problems are only some<br />
of the many concerns that may be addressed in brief psychotherapy. Medication<br />
evaluation with a prescribing psychologist in the Counseling Center and collaboration<br />
with the Student Health Services Center is also available. As needed, referrals<br />
to qualified professionals in the community are made available.<br />
Library<br />

The <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> Library is designed to sustain the accessible,<br />
trusted, and indispensable learning environment that is fundamental to student<br />
academic achievement in college.<br />
Its academic goals are to deliver high quality information, provide excellent<br />
guidance in its use, and promote learning in an attractive, technologically<br />
advanced, and personally comfortable environment.<br />
The Library helps students learn strategies and skills for accessing information<br />
and using it effectively for their class work.<br />
The Library Web site www.purduecal.edu/library/ is a link to scholarly information<br />
in electronic and print formats—books, journals, reference guides, and<br />
archives. Services for the user, including interlibrary loan, reference assistance and<br />
requests for purchase, are available 24-7 via links on the Library’s Web site. Click<br />
on the quick link on the <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> home page for easy access to<br />
Library resources.<br />
At the Library, students learn howto search a variety of information resources,<br />
including PULSE, the Web-based online catalog, to locate resources that the<br />
Library owns, search electronic databases to retrieve journal articles in full text, and<br />
organize and carry out research projects.<br />
The Library faculty, staff, and student assistants are here to helpstudents learn<br />
in today’s complexinformation environment. The Library provides individual<br />
assistance to each student. The Reference Desk, located in the center of the Library,<br />
is the place for students to begin their research. Library instruction sessions, which<br />
include pre-and post-tests of student information literacy, are scheduled at the<br />
request of professors.<br />
Open 95 hours per week, the Library is a haven for student learning. The Library<br />
learning environment includes such amenities as study rooms for groupprojects,<br />
an electronic classroom for hands-on learning, leisure seating for quiet conversation<br />
and a place to meet, and individual carrels for quiet study. A high-tech<br />
presentation practice room is available. The source for virtual and print documents<br />
about the university, Archives and Special Collections, was recently renovated to<br />
better accommodate scheduled classes and regular exhibitions. The ACCESS Center<br />
provides hardware and software to accommodate the needs of differently-abled<br />
students.<br />
The Library’s print collection includes 275,000 volumes and 503 current journal<br />
subscriptions. About 3,000 newvolumes are added each year. The Library also<br />
subscribes to 4,100 electronic journals and 2,760 electronic books. Newlinks to<br />
electronic resources are added weekly. The Library has nearly 800,000 microforms<br />
as well as a digital reproduction system that provides laser quality copies of<br />
microforms.<br />
