2. CHANGE OF DEGREE, TRANSFER, OR SECOND DEGREE STUDENTS<br />
Eligibility for admission by the Nursing Admission, Progression and Graduation Committee is determined<br />
by the following minimumcriteria:<br />
1. Minimum 2.75/4.0 cumulative grade point average is required in 12 semester<br />
credit hours of required core courses from the undergraduate nursing curriculum<br />
plan.<br />
2. The required twelve semester credit hours must include a minimum of six(6)<br />
semester credit hours of laboratory science with a minimum 2.0 (C) grade in<br />
each course.<br />
3. Required non-science courses must be taken from the following: English 10400,<br />
English 10500, (or its equivalent); Psychology 12000. Required science courses<br />
must be taken from the following: Chemistry 11900; Biology 21300 and 21400;<br />
Biology 22100 or equivalencies.<br />
4. All required courses must have a grade of 2.0 (C) or better.<br />
5. A grade of less than 2.0 in any three (3) prerequisite courses required in the<br />
Undergraduate Nursing Curriculum Plan of Study will result in ineligibility for<br />
admission.<br />
6. Repeated core science courses, for the purpose of admission, will be factored<br />
together to produce a cumulative GPA.<br />
7. Students are allowed only one withdrawal from the same science course. This<br />
withdrawal policy does not include courses dropped during the refund period.<br />
8. Laboratory science courses for non-RN students need to have been completed<br />
within five (5) years of an application to the School of Nursing. Special<br />
consideration may be given to applicants with a four year degree in science<br />
or a medically related field.<br />
9. Nursing students transferring from another nursing program must submit a<br />
letter of good standing from the Dean or designee of their previous nursing<br />
program.<br />
10. Applicants who have been admitted to the School of Nursing will be required<br />
to submit a record of a comprehensive physical examination completed within<br />
the last 6 months, a complete immunization record and/or lab titres, PPD within<br />
3 months of entry or chest x-ray, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification<br />
prior to registration. A criminal background check and malpractice insurance<br />
purchased through the university is required upon enrollment in the first<br />
clinical nursing course. In addition, students must meet agency requirements<br />
as they are mandated.<br />
NOTE: Simply meeting the above requirements does not guarantee admission to the Nursing Program.<br />
All applicants to Nursing are reviewed and the best qualified are admitted. Enrollment is limited.<br />

Admission Requirements for the<br />
ACCELERATED SECOND DEGREE IN NURSING OPTION<br />
<strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> School of Nursing offers an accelerated program for nonnurses<br />
who possess a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in another discipline.<br />
This intense and innovative program is designed specifically for full time, academically<br />
talented students, who are mature critical thinkers and motivated to earn a<br />
BS degree in nursing in a shortened time frame. Students who have a bachelor’s<br />
degree in another major that are not interested in a full time program or do not<br />
meet the admission requirements are encouraged to meet with the nursing<br />
academic advisor and explore their options in the traditional program.<br />
Admission Requirements:<br />
The successful applicant will:<br />
1. Have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in any major from an<br />
accredited institution.<br />
2. Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 from prior baccalaureate and/<br />
or graduate program.<br />
3. Have a minimum grade of “C”or better in all prerequisite courses.<br />
4. Provide an essay outlining personal goals and objectives along with a resume.<br />
5. Complete a face-to-face interviewwith members of the admissions committee.<br />
Entrance Requirements:<br />
1. Complete all OSHA requirements prior to enrollment.<br />
2. Complete a criminal background check.<br />
3. Meet with the nursing academic advisor.<br />
4. Attend the nursing orientations.<br />
