Tramping feet, shouts of laughter, and frantic<br />
roars from Coker, echoed far and wide.<br />
“Upon my word!” exclaimed Mr. Quelch, in great wrath. “Is that a Fifthform<br />
boy? Coker! What are you doing here?”<br />
“Ooogh! I—grooogh—I——--.”<br />
“Get up at once,” thundered Mr. Quelch. “How dare you join in such a<br />
disturbance in the junior day-room, Coker? There is more than enough<br />
noise and horse-play in this apartment, without a senior boy joining in it<br />
and encouraging the juniors by his example. You should know better,<br />
Coker.”<br />
“I—I—ooogh—I—wooogh—-.”<br />
“Leave this apartment at once, Coker! I shall speak to Mr. Prout about<br />
this. You should be ashamed of joining in noisy horse-play with a crowd of<br />
Lower boys. Coker! Go at once.”<br />
“I—I——I—ooogh——-.”<br />
“Go!” thundered Mr. Quelch.<br />
Coker, gurgling, went. Mr. Quelch, frowning, followed him out. And the<br />
Removites did not venture to chuckle till the door had closed on Mr.<br />
Quelch.<br />
