1.6 How long should the tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g last?<br />

- The duration depends on the purpose of tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and the experience of the<br />

participants.<br />

- A tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g course on immunization skills us<strong>in</strong>g these modules takes at least 3<br />

full days <strong>for</strong> EPI managers.<br />

1.7 What facilities are needed?<br />

a) Invitation Letters<br />

Writ<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>vitation letters and distribut<strong>in</strong>g them <strong>in</strong> time is very important. It is<br />

also advisable to check through telephone to make sure that letters reached<br />

the <strong>in</strong>tended people or <strong>in</strong>stitutions.<br />

b) Venue<br />

- A large room with chairs (if necessary with tables) is required <strong>in</strong> which all<br />

participants can sit com<strong>for</strong>tably.<br />

- Space is also needed <strong>for</strong> small group exercises/discussions and<br />

demonstrations.<br />

- A large room may be divided, tables may be separated, or smaller rooms<br />

nearby may be used <strong>for</strong> small group discussions.<br />

c) Cl<strong>in</strong>ical sett<strong>in</strong>g<br />

- As the program <strong>in</strong>cludes cl<strong>in</strong>ical practice the tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g center should be near<br />

health facilities to which the participants have access.<br />

d) Teach<strong>in</strong>g/learn<strong>in</strong>g materials/<strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> Aids<br />

- Copies of tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g modules <strong>for</strong> each participant<br />

- White or blackboard<br />

- Chalk<br />

- Flipchart stand.<br />

- Overhead projector, slide projector and a projection screen if appropriate<br />

- Also, a reliable source of power if there is a plan to use OHP or LCD<br />

Consumables<br />

For most tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programs, participants and facilitators need:<br />

- Flip charts<br />

- Marker pens<br />

- Writ<strong>in</strong>g pads<br />

- Ballpo<strong>in</strong>t pens<br />

- Pencils<br />

- Rulers<br />

- Chalk<br />

<strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> equipment<br />

Equipment <strong>for</strong> skill practice will depend on the type of tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g program. It may<br />

<strong>in</strong>clude:<br />
