About Communicating With the System<br />

To install your system software or to diagnose problems, you need some way to<br />

interact at a low level with the system. The system console is <strong>Sun</strong>’s facility for doing<br />

this. You use the system console to view messages and issue commands. There can<br />

be only one system console per computer.<br />

The serial management port (SERIAL MGT) is the default port for accessing the<br />

system console upon initial system installation. After installation, you can configure<br />

the system console to accept input from and send output to different devices. See<br />

TABLE 2-1 for a summary.<br />
