To use the system console, you need some means of getting data in to and out of the<br />

system, which means attaching some kind of hardware to the system. Initially, you<br />

might have to configure that hardware, and load and configure appropriate software<br />

as well.<br />

You also must ensure that the system console is directed to the appropriate port on<br />

the <strong>Sun</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> <strong>V445</strong> server’s back panel – generally, the one to which your hardware<br />

console device is attached. (See FIGURE 2-1.) You do this by setting the inputdevice<br />

and output-device OpenBoot configuration variables.<br />
