Specimen Collection Label Instructions<br />

Complete the Specimen Collection Label when salmon or<br />

sablefish snouts have been collected or when a whole fish<br />

or invert has been collected. An example of the form is<br />

included as Figure 6-19.<br />

Tip* - Before going to sea, take 10 – 20 specimen<br />

collection labels and place a WCGOP bar code<br />

sticker on the back of the each label while the labels<br />

are clean and dry.<br />

• Vessel Name – Record the name of the vessel on<br />

which the specimen was collected.<br />

• Haul Number – Record the haul number from<br />

which the specimen was collected.<br />

• Trip Number – Record the trip number generated<br />

by the database system.<br />

• Date – Enter the date that the haul/set was<br />

retrieved as MM/DD/YY.<br />

• Species Identification – Record the common name<br />

of the species.<br />

• Entered As – Record the species name entered into<br />

the database, if this differs from the above (e.g. you<br />

entered it as rockfish, unidentified but believe it was<br />

a canary rockfish).<br />

• Depth (FM) – Record the retrieval depth of the<br />

haul/set in fathoms.<br />

• Length (cm) – Record the length of the fish, in<br />

centimeters.<br />
