4. Scales<br />

• From the first five fish of each salmon species<br />

encountered during your first contract and the<br />

first two fish from each subsequent contract.<br />

• Whenever species identification is in doubt.<br />

• When an external tag or tagged snout is<br />

collected.<br />

5. Snout if the adipose fin is missing.<br />

Data Collection From High Priority Rockfish<br />

Species and Lingcod<br />

There are eleven high priority species (mostly rockfish) on<br />

the west coast about which limited biological information<br />

has been collected to date. Stock assessment analysts have<br />

asked that WCGOP <strong>Observer</strong>s focus on collecting length,<br />

sex and otolith information from these species.<br />

Following is the list of high priority species in order of data<br />

collection priority:<br />

1. Canary Rockfish<br />

2. Yelloweye Rockfish<br />

3. Bocaccio Rockfish**<br />

4. Cowcod**<br />

5. Pacific Ocean Perch<br />

6. Lingcod<br />

7. Dark-blotched Rockfish<br />

8. Widow Rockfish<br />

9. Rougheye Rockfish<br />

10. Shortraker Rockfish<br />

11. Silvergrey Rockfish<br />

**Priority only for fish collected South of 40°10′ (Cape<br />

Mendocino)**<br />
