Navigational Requirements<br />

Compass 46 CFR 28.230<br />

• Each vessel must be equipped with an operable<br />

magnetic steering compass with a compass<br />

deviation table at the operating station.<br />

Electronic Position Fixing Devices 46 CFR 28.260<br />

• Vessels 79 feet or more in length must be equipped<br />

with an electronic positioning fixing device such as<br />

SAT NAV, GPS, LORAN, OMEGA, or RDF that<br />

is capable of providing accurate fixes for the area of<br />

operation.<br />

Navigation and Anchor<br />

Lights<br />

• Must be used from sunset to sunrise and when<br />

there is limited visibility.<br />

• Navigation Information 46 CFR 28.225.<br />

• Current corrected charts of the appropriate areas<br />

and scale for safe navigation.<br />

• Current corrected copy (or applicable extract) of the<br />

U.S. <strong>Coast</strong> Pilot, USCG Light List, National Ocean<br />

Service Tide Tables and National Ocean Service<br />

Current Tables.<br />

Anchor and Radar Reflectors 46 CFR 28.235<br />

• Vessels operating with more than 16 individuals on<br />

board or vessels operating outside boundary water.<br />

• Each vessel must be equipped with appropriate<br />

anchor(s) and chain(s), cable, or rope.<br />

• Nonmetallic hull vessels must be equipped with a<br />

radar reflector unless it is a vessel rigged with gear<br />

that can provide a radar signature at six miles.<br />
