• If only a portion of the individuals of any species are<br />

weighed (i.e. only 5 of 10 skates are weighed) and an<br />

average weight is used to calculate total weight of<br />

skates in the sample then all species for which actual<br />

or extrapolated sample weights have been obtained<br />

are placed in the same catch category and the Sample<br />

Method on the Species Composition Form is 4 –<br />

Fixed Gear Sample.<br />

Species Composition Form Instructions<br />

The species composition information collected is record on<br />

the Species Composition Form (See Figure 5-18).<br />

• Haul Number – Record the number of the haul<br />

that the sample came from.<br />

• Date – Record the date as MM/DD/YY.<br />

• Trip Number – Record the trip number<br />

generated by the database system.<br />

• <strong>Coast</strong> Guard Number – Record the six or seven<br />

digit USCG vessel number if the vessel has one.<br />

If the vessel does not have a USCG number,<br />

leave entry field blank.<br />

• Catch # - Record the number that corresponds to<br />

the catch category on the Catch Form.<br />

• Sample Method – Record the method used to<br />

sample the catch category.<br />

1 – Whole haul.<br />

4 – Fixed Gear.<br />

• # Of Baskets – This field is blank on fixed gear<br />

vessels.<br />
