Bilge Systems 46 CFR 28.255<br />

• All vessels must be equipped with a bilge pump<br />

capable of draining any watertight compartment,<br />

other than tanks and small buoyancy<br />

compartments, under all service conditions.<br />

• If portable bilge is used to meet this requirement, a<br />

suitable suction hose and discharge hose must be<br />

provided that will reach the bilges of all watertight<br />

compartments it must serve and ensure overboard<br />

discharge. The portable pump must be capable of<br />

dewatering each space at a rate of at least 2 inches<br />

of water depth per minute.<br />

Casualties and Injuries 46 CFR 28.080, 46 CFR 28.090<br />

If any of the following incidence occur, the master or<br />

other vessel representative must as soon as possible,<br />

contact the nearest USCG Marine Safety Office and<br />

submit written report CG-2692 within five days:<br />

• Groundings<br />

• Loss of main propulsion or primary steering<br />

• Loss of life<br />

• Injury which requires professional medical<br />

treatment beyond first aid and render the victim<br />

unfit to perform vessel duties.<br />

• Any damage over $25,000, any occurrence affecting<br />

the sea-worthiness of the vessel such as; fire,<br />

flooding, or the failure or damage to fixed fire<br />

extinguishing systems, lifesaving equipment.<br />

• Auxiliary power generating equipment or bilge<br />

pumping systems<br />
