Appendix Q: Vessel Selection in 2004<br />

Limited Entry <strong>Groundfish</strong> Trawlers:<br />

• Selection based on 2-Month Cumulative Trip Limit periods.<br />

• All trips taken during selected 2-months are covered by an <strong>Observer</strong>.<br />

• Between May 1, 2004 and December 31, 2004, all <strong>Groundfish</strong> Trawlers will be selected.<br />

Limited Entry Fixed Gear – Sablefish Endorsed<br />

• Selection based on sablefish tier quota(s).<br />

• Sablefish season is April 1 – October 31.<br />

• All trips that land fish on the sablefish tier quota are covered by an <strong>Observer</strong>.<br />

• Approximately ¼ of total sablefish endorsed permits will be covered during 2004 season.<br />

Limited Entry Fixed Gear – Nonsablefish Endorsed<br />

• Selection based on 2-Month Cumulative Trip Limit periods.<br />

• All trips taken during selected 2-months are covered by an <strong>Observer</strong>.<br />

• Approximately ½ of Nonsablefish Endorsed vessels will be covered in 2004.<br />

Open Access – California<br />

• Selection based on 2-Month Cumulative Trip Limit periods<br />

• All trips taken during selected 2-months may be covered by an <strong>Observer</strong>.<br />

• Open access vessels will be selected once between January 1, 2004 and June 30, 2004 and once<br />

between July 1, 2004 and December 31, 2004.<br />

Open Access – Oregon and Washington<br />

• At time of printing, Oregon and Washington legislation had not yet passed to allow the coverage of<br />

open access vessels.<br />
