CHAPTER 7
Specimen Collection Label Instructions
Complete the Specimen Collection Label when a pinniped
snout has been collected. An example of the form is
included as Figure 7-5.
• Vessel Name – Record the name of the vessel on
which the specimen was collected.
• Haul Number – Record the haul number from
which the specimen was collected.
• Trip Number – Record the trip number generated
by the database system.
• Date – Enter the date that the haul/set was
retrieved as MM/DD/YY.
• Species Identification – Record the common name
of the species.
• Entered As – Record the species name entered into
the database, if this differs from the above.
• Depth (FM) – Record the retrieval depth of the
haul/set in fathoms.
• Length (cm) – Record the length of the marine
mammal in centimeters.
• Weight (LB) – Record the weight of the marine
mammal in pounds.
• Sex – Record the sex of the marine mammal.
• Observer Name – Record your first and last name.
