Discard That Cannot Be Attributed to a<br />

Specific Haul<br />

On rare occasions, a vessel will discard fish from the hold.<br />

This happens if market conditions change during a trip or if<br />

they are catching larger fish that are worth more money.<br />

Record discard that cannot be attributed to a specific haul<br />

on the Trip Discard Form.<br />

Trip Discard Form Instructions<br />

The Trip Discard Form is not entered into the database<br />

system. Document the information from the Trip Discard<br />

Form (See Figure 5-19) in the Trip Comments on the Trip<br />

Page.<br />

• Trip Number – Record the trip number<br />

generated by the database system.<br />

• <strong>Coast</strong> Guard Number – Record the six or seven<br />

digit USCG vessel number if the vessel has one.<br />

If the vessel does not have a USCG number,<br />

leave entry field blank.<br />

• Date – Document the month and day that the trip<br />

discard took place.<br />

• Time – Document the time, in Pacific Standard<br />

Time, that the trip discard took place.<br />

• Species – Document the species that was<br />

discarded.<br />

• Weight – Document the weight, in pounds, of<br />

species discarded.<br />

• # of Fish – Document the number of fish<br />

discarded.<br />
