CHAPTER 8<br />

Stowage of Survival Craft 46 CFR 28.125<br />

• Each inflatable life raft that is required to be<br />

equipped with a SOLAS A or B equipment pack<br />

automatically inflates if the vessel sinks.<br />

• Each inflatable life raft must be kept readily<br />

accessible for launching or be stowed so they will<br />

float free if the vessel sinks.<br />

• Each hydrostatic release unit in a float free<br />

arrangement must have a CG approved number<br />

starting with 160.062.<br />

Launching of Survival Craft 46 CFR 28.310<br />

Vessels with 16 or more individuals, or vessels operating<br />

outside boundary water, that have had their keel laid or<br />

major conversion on or after September 15, 1991:<br />

• A gate or other opening must be provided in<br />

deck rails, lifelines, or bulwarks adjacent to the<br />

stowage location of each survival craft which<br />

weighs more than 110 pounds, to allow the<br />

survival craft to be manually launched.<br />

Embark Stations 46 CFR 28.395<br />

Vessels with 16 or more individuals, or vessels operating<br />

outside boundary water, that have had their keel laid or<br />

major conversion on or after September 15, 1991:<br />

• Each vessel must have at least one designated<br />

survival craft embark station (more if necessary)<br />

that is readily accessible from each<br />

accommodation space and workspace.<br />

• Each embark station must be arranged to allow<br />

the safe boarding of survival craft.<br />
