the expensive engine had so deteriorated that it was<br />

almost worthless. The Christian owner testified in<br />

church shortly afterward that he had lost ten thousand<br />

dollars since he had backslidden, and that all<br />

he had left were his two hands, but that this appar¬<br />

ent misfortune was well worth while, for it had<br />

brought him back to his Saviour. The Lord was<br />

with him now, and he was enjoying such sweet fellowship<br />

that nothing else really mattered. Since<br />

then he has been instrumental in bringing into being<br />

another church at Tan Thach, across the Mekong<br />

River from Mytho. Incidentally he is still living on<br />

his own homestead; the mortgagor has not seen fit<br />

to put him off.<br />

At Sadec a farmer from another city, Caolanh, a<br />

whole day's journey upriver, came to the chapel and<br />

listened as the missionary explained the gospel message.<br />

He was interested and came back again and<br />

again, bringing many of his friends with him. They<br />

finally accepted Jesus as their Saviour, and an outstation<br />

was born even before the main station had<br />

been established. This outstation has become a large<br />

independent church with other outstations of its own.<br />

At Cantho a goldsmith and his family were con¬<br />

verted, and became the nucleus around which our<br />

Lord built one of the strongest churches in the state.<br />

It, too, has several outstations now. One of these<br />

is in the village of an old man who has only one leg.<br />

This man's contagious testimony is a benediction to
