The missionary had the joy of baptizing twentynine<br />
of those villagers, and that was the beginning<br />
of better days for the Saigon church. They came<br />
each Sunday, driving to town in little native carriages.<br />
But it was not long before they decided that<br />
they should have a church of their own. The old<br />
mother gave a piece of property and the others gave<br />
of their money, and soon they had a nice little chapel<br />
in the village. The rest of the village folk knew of<br />
Mr. Le's Saviour, for his testimony had impressed<br />
them too. The church there grew rapidly Wil the<br />
building became too small for the congregation, and<br />
they had to tear it down and erect a larger place.<br />
They have now a commodious, tile-roofed church<br />
building with a nice little parsonage alongside. They<br />
have their own Annamese pastor, and God is richly<br />
blessing his ministry. The Lord saw that Mr. Le's<br />
death would mean more than his life, so He took<br />
him home to heaven in such a glorious fashion, that<br />
all who saw it said, "We want that too." The missionaries<br />
thought this death was a calamity, but God<br />
made it a blessing to many.<br />
When this village chapel was opened, the Government<br />
did not demand a written authorization, as<br />
it did for those that were built later. A group of<br />
native officials in the township heard of this. They<br />
were enemies of the gospel, for there as everywhere<br />
the Christians met with persecution from those who<br />
