The course is a five-year one, consisting of three<br />
years in school and two years in practical Christian<br />
work under the supervision of a missionary on one<br />
of the stations. These undergraduates render excellent<br />
service as preachers and evangelists. It was they<br />
who manned the outstations and preached in many<br />
of our larger churches during the time when we did<br />
not have sufficient graduates. Too much cannot be<br />
said of their faithfulness nor of the excellent work<br />
done by them.<br />
One of these undergraduate students was in charge<br />
of the outstation at Faifoo during the time when it<br />
was not officially authorized. There was an under¬<br />
standing that he could preach there and visit the<br />
Christians of the congregation, but he was not supposed<br />
to carry on aggressive evangelism outside the<br />
chapel.<br />
This young man had been on the Annamese stage<br />
before he came to Bible School. He had been a<br />
popular actor and was well known throughout the<br />
province. Great crowds came to the chapel when it<br />
was noised abroad that Luong, the actor, had become<br />
Lieu, the preacher. The Annamese have a custom<br />
of changing their names at crisis times in their lives<br />
or when they change their professions. Lieu was as<br />
good a preacher as he had been an actor. Moreover,<br />
the Lord worked with him, and during that year<br />
nearly a thousand men and women professed con¬<br />
version.<br />
