The <strong>Kabbalah</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong><br />
The subject <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong> itself is well documented but <strong>the</strong>re are<br />
too few publications written from <strong>the</strong> occultist's viewpoint, which differs<br />
somewhat from that <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hebrew traditionalist. There are some useful<br />
books <strong>of</strong> this type available however, and one <strong>of</strong> rhe best texts is Dian<br />
Fortune's Mystical Qabalah, though she worked only on <strong>the</strong> Sephiroth.<br />
Ano<strong>the</strong>r is A. E. Waite's book The Holy <strong>Kabbalah</strong>, which is really a monumental<br />
and impressive piece <strong>of</strong> work. Waite's commentary on <strong>the</strong> historical<br />
gleanings and folio references in <strong>the</strong> Zohar proved invaluable in<br />
<strong>the</strong> preparation <strong>of</strong> this work. My own personal favorite, though, is <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Kabbalah</strong> by Charles Ponce, who does a brilliant job <strong>of</strong> condensing <strong>the</strong><br />
vast and complex history <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong> into a very fine little volume.<br />
Ponce went fur<strong>the</strong>r toward <strong>the</strong> occult viewpoint than Waite, while still<br />
retaining <strong>the</strong> integrity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> traditionalist.<br />
My own work here, which is combined with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> viewpoint,<br />
takes things a step fur<strong>the</strong>r toward <strong>the</strong> occultist's viewpoint. In many<br />
respects it isa <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> notebook on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong>, for it retains a number<br />
<strong>of</strong> previously unpublished <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> texts on <strong>the</strong> subject, as well as<br />
later ones which have been pruned and presented toge<strong>the</strong>r. When Regardie<br />
published all <strong>the</strong> <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> rituals (Llewellyn Publications), only <strong>the</strong><br />
bare bones <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kabbalistic papers were included for reasons <strong>of</strong> space.<br />
It is inevitable that <strong>the</strong>re are some quores from previously published<br />
<strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> ritual papers, but <strong>the</strong>se have been re-edited in such a fashion,<br />
with additional footnotes, that most <strong>of</strong> this material will be seen as it<br />
was intended by <strong>the</strong> Chiefs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong>. In context, <strong>the</strong>refore, it<br />
is very much a new type <strong>of</strong> work and direction.<br />
Each <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> Temple had quite a number <strong>of</strong> lectures circulating<br />
on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong> that were never part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> five basic knowledge lectures,<br />
and even <strong>the</strong>se differed from temple to temple. From 1900, when<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> split into <strong>the</strong> Alpha et Omega Temples under Ma<strong>the</strong>rs<br />
and <strong>the</strong> remainder, who changed <strong>the</strong> name to Morgan Ro<strong>the</strong>, 1 <strong>the</strong> Order<br />
still continued to function on <strong>the</strong> practical level as it had before. Thus<br />
over <strong>the</strong> years from 1900 2 to <strong>the</strong> present day, quite a lot <strong>of</strong> Kabbalistic<br />
texts were added by various members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Order as more translations <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Zohar became available.<br />
This is German and roughly translated means Red <strong>Dawn</strong>.<br />
A fur<strong>the</strong>r split in <strong>the</strong> Order developed in 1903. One group was called rhe Holy Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Golden</strong><br />
<strong>Dawn</strong> under Waite and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r was called <strong>the</strong> Stella Matutina under Dr. R. W. Felkin.
