184 The <strong>Kabbalah</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong><br />
AU <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se are, <strong>of</strong> course, tailored to fit <strong>the</strong> requirements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> particular<br />
individual or sect. The <strong>Kabbalah</strong> is an extremely versatile concept<br />
to familiarize oneself with, providing <strong>the</strong> dogma <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> school we study<br />
under is considered as a guideline only, and <strong>the</strong> Higher Self IS given free<br />
rein to explore o<strong>the</strong>r dimensions using a Kabbalistic framework.<br />
Though 1have tried to present <strong>the</strong> <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> viewpoint (which<br />
is <strong>of</strong> course as subjective as its practitioners), this too is changing, with<br />
modern studies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong> being introduced today. Writetssuch as<br />
Regardie and Halevi have both added extra dimensions to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong><br />
that cannot be ignored. The <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> will continue to grow and<br />
expand on its teachings, as <strong>the</strong> Kabbalistic viewpoint <strong>of</strong> 100 years ago is<br />
not necessarily what is taken today or even 100 years from now.<br />
It is ra<strong>the</strong>r surprising to note how many <strong>of</strong> those who study <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> tradition feel that <strong>the</strong> viewpoint <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Order goes only as<br />
far as <strong>the</strong> Rituals, <strong>the</strong> Knowledge Lectures, and <strong>the</strong> Flying Rolls,182 <strong>the</strong>n<br />
stops. At Whare Ra Temple in New Zealand <strong>the</strong>re were literally stacks <strong>of</strong><br />
lectures on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong> that were given out in Temple over a 60-year<br />
period; many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m have never been published. A number <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se,<br />
mainly being Zoharic quotes, have been included in this book, but unfortunately<br />
<strong>the</strong>re were a number destroyed. Many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se same documents<br />
were also given out in <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> lectures as early as <strong>the</strong> early. 1890s<br />
by various <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> temples, while a number were added later.<br />
While visiting Los Angeles in 1988, [ was pleasantly surprised to<br />
find yet fur<strong>the</strong>r dimensions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong> given in a series <strong>of</strong> lectures by<br />
<strong>the</strong> Chief <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Los Angeles <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong> Temple, Laura Jennings<br />
Yorke, who presented <strong>the</strong> day-to-day aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong> in a refreshingly<br />
clear and concise manner and in a style <strong>of</strong> her own which, no doubt,<br />
was well suited to <strong>the</strong> American temperament. It is new ground like this<br />
that brings <strong>the</strong> teachings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong> to <strong>the</strong> masses in a more readily<br />
acceptable form than ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Traditionalist or <strong>the</strong> Psychological viewpoint.<br />
Both <strong>the</strong> teachings <strong>of</strong> Dion Fortune and Paul Foster Case, though<br />
written in <strong>the</strong> first half<strong>of</strong> this century, also bear out this fact.<br />
Kabbalistic doctrine, no matter which school one studies, is a continually<br />
evolving process that should be kept abreast <strong>of</strong> 20th- and Zlstcentury<br />
developments and must not be left solely to 13th-century<br />
