The Soul <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>Kabbalah</strong> 111<br />
<strong>the</strong> animus is <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r or Yod Force. There is also some contradiction<br />
in <strong>the</strong> application <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chiah and <strong>the</strong> still higher form <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Yechidah<br />
to <strong>the</strong> Kabbalistic Soul, and <strong>the</strong> two latter phases <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> soul are<br />
mentioned only in <strong>the</strong> "Faithful Shepherd" portion <strong>of</strong> rhe Zahar. 104 The<br />
confusion exists because <strong>the</strong> Chiah and Yechidah have also been associated<br />
with <strong>the</strong> Ruach. The <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Dawn</strong>, however, opted for <strong>the</strong> five<br />
parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sou].<br />
The Higher Mental body is <strong>the</strong> Neschamah, <strong>the</strong> Chiah is <strong>the</strong><br />
Causal Body, with <strong>the</strong> Yechidah as <strong>the</strong> highest point or Spirit. The three<br />
bodies mentioned here are in reality separated by a type <strong>of</strong> gulf from <strong>the</strong><br />
four lower bodies and this type <strong>of</strong> analytical approach is very difficult in<br />
<strong>the</strong>se areas as <strong>the</strong> Zahar has very little, if anything on <strong>the</strong>m.<br />
The Soul and Death<br />
Before we discuss <strong>the</strong> actual function <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> three degrees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Soul at and after death, <strong>the</strong> spirit or channel that binds <strong>the</strong> soul should<br />
also be looked at. This is called <strong>the</strong> Zelem, and its shape is said to resemble<br />
that <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> body, or Nephesch. The Zelem, according to <strong>the</strong> Loriahian<br />
concept, has three parts, one is <strong>the</strong> main energy force and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
two are similar to auric envelopes which are called Makifim, Before <strong>the</strong><br />
appointed time <strong>of</strong> death both <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Makifim <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Neschamah withdraw<br />
from <strong>the</strong> body and go to <strong>the</strong>ir appointed place, <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> Ruach and<br />
Ncphesch, over a 30-day period. This Zoharic teaching is similar to that<br />
<strong>of</strong> Edgar Cayce, <strong>the</strong> great American psychic, who stated on more than<br />
one occasion that those people he saw who died a short time later had no<br />
visible aura. Not only Cayce but o<strong>the</strong>r psychics, such as Arthur Ford,<br />
have also made similar statements that seem to parallel <strong>the</strong> teachings <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Zahar with <strong>the</strong> term "aura" being used instead <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> word "soul." The<br />
time scale <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> withdrawal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Zelem <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Neschamah depends on<br />
<strong>the</strong> individual. Some people have, well before <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> death, allowed<br />
<strong>the</strong> Ruach to withdraw into <strong>the</strong> Neschamah. In very highly evolved individuals<br />
this has <strong>the</strong> effect that both Ruach and Neschamah are one (this<br />
would make <strong>the</strong> withdrawal a lot less than 30 days). In this instance <strong>the</strong><br />
Nephesch is clearly very highly evolved, and after <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> body<br />
<strong>the</strong>re is no decomposition. The Zahar tells us;l°5<br />
